REBOL Documentation Project

 [1/15] from: ptretter::charter::net at: 26-Sep-2001 7:09

OK. So we know the documentation is far from complete including that which is written and published on RT's website. What we need is a Documentation Project that focuses exclusively on the System Object. This way we can detail every refinement of that object and its associated words and types of values. Anybody want to join me in organizing this. Paul Tretter

Hi Paul, Sounds fun. I've got a few other REBOL info gathering projects I want to do. I'm going to investigate Vanilla this weekend. I may add it to the RF site (or another server I use for testing). <Thinking out loud>. Bo did a Knowledge base script which might be a basis of a View front end to it and IIRC Rod Gather wrote a spec for a KB system. All the pieces are there, just need the elbow grease and glue. Cheers, Allen K

I've been thinking about my spec and Maarten's Rugby with great interest lately but haven't been able to find the time to move forward. Short on elbow grease you might say. :-( If anyone does find (make) the time to go forward with a KB solution I'd love to help however I can. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have questions about my spec at the M-Lore rebsite or - http://www.modernlore.com/rebol/rkbspec.html Thanks, Rod. Perhaps use Vanilla for the foundation work, as it makes addition of comments examples etc much easier. Use Vanilla to produce and publish a standalone Rebol database version consitent with other .r docs This is a small enough commnity that open editing featuers of Vanilla should be a great benefit. Plus it helps to promote Rebol. Also if anyone wants to venture some back-of-napkin Rebol support/overview schematics I will be glad to contribute gtraphi/animation skills in any way. Perhaps this dioes nto appeal to som. I think visually a lot of the time.. just my newbie $.01 - Jason

Jason, Does the image on this page help you? http://www.rebol.com/prod-view.html http://www.rebol.com/graphics/view-diagram.gif Cheers, Allen K

Yes it's a start.. Q1: Are the blocks in that diagram correct? Q2: What are the relationship between those parts? How they work together etc.. Q3: If I were to add rollovers to each element what should they say/show/do? Q4: How should View and Core as presented here be extended to clarify Pro | Command |IOS ? Q5: How doe these elements relate to the operating system, windowing system and internet protocols? Q6: What is the worlflow for installation, maintenance and use of these? Q7: What distinctions/similarities if any should be made between the elements and sub-elements: using color/style perhaps. Q8: Where does user code live, and how does one relate the REB and WEB, between REB desktop, servers, clients, foregraound adn backgournd tasks? There's also this one: http://www.reboltech.com/library/scripts/diagram.r - Jason

I added some info on the SYSTEM object in the Express knowledge base some time ago. If RT could consider publishing that script (as has been done for the Reference script)... Otherwise I'll see if I can gather back that information and I will send it to you. Helloe world, Sorry to bother all, but is there a way I can info on this documentation project? do you have a web site? I am back on the list from my recent employment change. I am curious as to what has transpired since my last activity on the list... with an average of 40-50 mails a day... browinsg the logs is rather tedious... Thanks -Maxim

don't know how long ago you were here, but here's what I take as the important part in the last little while: REBOL Announces IOS. (See www.rebol.com) Talk of REPs (REBOL Enhancement Proposals, Search www.scribe.com) Talk of /Encap Lisencing (email me for more info, Search www.scribe.com) Enjoy!! Ammon

Hi Paul, I just returned to the list after a long while away (I chaged jobs and lost access for a while), can you clue me in on what your project is? I am eager to help! -Maxim

I find the format of php documentation at this url very useful: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.imap-fetchstructure.php Perhaps another improvement would be to add the ability for a reader to add his/her rating to any existing comment, so that the most significant comments (according to users, whether a comment is a bug, feature request, or whatever) can rise to the top over time? --Ken. Looking for a good sig? Well, you can forget this one!

I think a good addition to this project would be a REBOL script that can compare changes to the system/object much like sys admins have for "seeing" changes to windows registry after a new software install. This we can get a better feel for what the system/object contains and does.. Paul Tretter
