Hi Ammon, all.

I made it with the help of Gabriele Santilli who created the
functions in the filter libraries, I can send the source to who
requests it.
In a few days I will put it on a reb/website, I cannot use
ftp with the proxy, here...

Hi,
Here is what I have put together from all that has been said:
The first version should do the following:
* Multiple account access
* a simple option to not delete the messages from the server.
* send mail with attachments
* IMAP capability
With those features we would have something to beta test. The rest are to follow. The
Inlook mail client I talked about in an earlier email is available on REBOLEK's RebSite.
I like it very well. It doesn't send mail, but it has multiple account access & the
ability to not delete messages, & it even has a nifty Skin feature. I am now contacting
him for permission to use his code to help develop RebMale.
next on the list:
* Import features for Outlook, Netscape, & Eudora
* Signiture/Macro-for-outgoing feature
* Macro-for-incoming feature(i.e. sorting, & anti-spam)
* Virus Scanning
RebMale by nature will not allow the executing of code wether in messages, or external.
So let the coding begin!!

Re: Mail Client(RebMale) - sourceforge ?
Lets code. I wonder if we should setup an account on sourceforge.org? I
would do it, but I am starting a month-long vacation tomorrow and I am not
sure how often I will have access to the internet.

I would advise against using Sourceforge for such an undertaking on twio grounds,
1. You need approval / permission to get a group hosted there - by no means certain -
requires compliance with Sourcforge terms & conditions, software licensing terms etc.
2. The user interface / administration is cumbersome.
This is in no way meant to be disparaging of Sourcforge whom I think provide excellent
services & facilities to major open source software projects but for a smaller undertaking
like REBMAIL I think egroups / now called http://groups.yahoo.com provide an easier to
access / use and friendlier service. Also free 20 megabytes file space which should be
just about sufficient for an MS OUTLOOK bloated REBOL Mail client like REBMAIL 8-)
Only joking - honest! should be more like 20k hopefully or no more than 200k.
cheers,
Mark Dickson

Mail Client(RebMale)
You might like to look at my mini e-mail client ....
http://www.upnaway.com/~philb/philip/pbmail/readmail.r
Something I kocked together for when I am away from home but still get my mail.
Does the first 3 points listed below .... also has multiple folders.
.... but is client side only.
Cant see any reason why folders cant be on a FTP server ... except speed.
It was hacked together .... and is still work in progress ....
Cheers Phil

Re: Mail Client(RebMale) - sourceforge ?
On the other side SourceForge provides something that YahooGroups dose not. Colloborative
development via CVS. With multiple developers working on projects it can be very difficult
to work together without a version control system.
SourceForge will approve projects unless you want to distribute under a license which
they don't currently support. In that case you need permission. If you are creating a
free project under one of the major Open Source licenses (GPL, LGPL, BSD, MIT, Zlib,
etc) then it'll be approved in as little as 24 hours.
I run a project under SourceForge and it is extremely easy to administer if you have
a little bit of experience with CVS.
Just another side of the coin :-)
Chris.

Re: Mail Client(RebMale) - sourceforge ? Features ?
I agree. Unless there is a better alternative sourceforge is the place to be.
Now we just have to agree on features of v1.0.
What I learned form this discussion is that POP is popular, IMAP may be the
future but not widely adapted, and Yahoo needs a "real" mail client.
There is also the issue of marketing. I think that if we came up with a
mail client for Yahoo, we (and Rebol) would be famous in an instant. Yahoo
does have POP access, maybe we can use some screen scraping and some POP
together?
Also, if people feel that this discussion has graduated out of this list
please let us know.

Hi,
I just created a Yahoo! Group, RebMail. I think all further
comunications should be moved there, unless we need help developing beyond
the ability of those who are willing to push this one, basically it is ther
for collabration.
At this point there have not been any further comments(after my last
post on it) on what should be included, & what should not. I take this as
meaning they are somewhat exceptable. Let's get this far & release it for
public beta tests:
* Multiple Account Access
* Delete mail on server settings
* IMAP Support
* Send mail with attachments
Is this agreed? If so, then let's get some volunteering going on as to
who wants to do what.
Enjoy!!
Ammon
PS If you are going to participate in developing RebMail please email me
[ammoncooke--yahoo--com] & I will invite you to join the official list.

Hi all,

The PhilB GUI looks good, I can send Gabriele Santilli's
filter libraries and my actually unfinished code to be used.
Everything is designed with the goal of keeping different tasks in
different modules, sharing the libraries. I have a mail/news download
script, an attachment extractor script and some samples to handle the
libraries.
My original idea was to create a tool to archive and keep separate
office mail from different customers to easily find information about
the customer requests, bug reports, feedback...
Everything can be periodically saved on a CD and is still browsable.
The messages are saved in a "dated" path to track mail received in
a time (very useful for my job):
2001/08/17/Mailbox1/Category1
2001/08/17/Mailbox1/Category2
2001/08/17/Mailbox1/Category3
2001/08/17/Mailbox2/Category1
2001/08/17/Mailbox3/Category1
2001/08/17/Mailbox3/Category2
this is easily adjustable but I think it's better to keep the feature
using a flag in the options.
Messages from mailing lists are kept in a separate path
Mailings/Rebol
Mailings/Ally
Mailings/Rebol-IT
Mailings/AROS
while indexes of the received messages are written in the "dated" path
(too):
2001/08/17/Mailbox1-Category1.txt
2001/08/17/Mailbox1-Category2.txt
2001/08/17/Mailbox1-Category3.txt
2001/08/17/Mailbox2-Category1.txt
2001/08/17/Mailbox3-Category1.txt
2001/08/17/Mailbox3-Category2.txt
From work, due to the proxy, I cannot upload the files or use cvs
(if the project goes on sourceforge), I must send zipped scripts as
attachment. Let me know if you are interested.
I will read email until 18:00 (CET) then I will read it again on
Monday.
