no kidding... I was getting ready to re-subscribe, thinking that I wasn't on
the list anymore it has been so long since I saw a message...
Here are my(and not only mine) first thoughts to change this situation:

YES! This would be great! RT: Please give us a way to see bug-reports and
their curent status!

I have been remiss as well.
Things have been SOOOOOOOOO busy!
I'm MEANT to be getting back to a group of professional Rebol developers.
One of which I plan to hire. And (hopefully) in the next couple of weeks we
will be releasing our first 100% Rebol consumer product!
But...and this is actually true, MICROSOFT slows us down in SOOOOOOOOOO many
ways. I think our company runs at about 35% less efficiency do to MICROSOFT
related problems.

Hi all ALLIES,
Seems like all of you(include me) have died off or disapear from this list
;-).
Rest of us rather shows their "Guru abilities" to r-newbies (I have nothing
against r-newbies and spreading the Rebolution but the recent situation
between rebol developers/testers seems really srange to me ;-) ) instead of
concentrate on real /View problems and the future way of Rebol/View(and not
only /View).
I don't want to start any flame wars against anyone here. I was just
thinking about the fact that we haven't seen almost any progress from our
lovely RT gang for about half year. Where are the "dynamic times" of rebol
experimental versions? Where are the great and wothwhile discussions on ALLY
or even /Express conference? I believe RT continue developing of their cool
products but it seems to me they are loosing contact with us testers and
developers...
Here are my(and not only mine) first thoughts to change this situation:
-we need on-line bugreport db(RT: what about to settle "BUGGIES" rebsite
with simmilar application like bug db in /Express?)
-we need access to experimental builds like before (RT: or you don't need
testing anymore ;-) )
I'm writing this beacuse I want to see you waking up for the next versions
of Rebol/View, to hear your opinions, thoughts about new features etc. Such
way could have built new, better, closer way of communication with our
CREATORS...so don't hesitate, go on!
Back to the roots!

This happened before. That was followed by something GREAT. So I
think everyone here is just waiting for something great to happend
(and dreaming/drooling in the wait).
:-)

That is a must indeed. /Express' bug tracking tool seems something
other users should not be kept away from. :)

That would be nice for us to play :) but see above. They must be
working on something bigger... you know, they never rest. ;-)

Gabriele.

For me, doing bug reports or writing/updating apps for Link/Express became
pointless when View was updated without bringing Link into line. It lost all
the momentum after that as everyone shifted focus to View.

Thoughts/Debate ...
Should View's sound handling and move to the free version?
Since there is a commercial license is there still a need for a View and
View/Pro difference.
Could sufficient revenue be generate from a commercial use pays model?

You are right, they are woking on BIG NEW stuff.
One thing -- I sure hope the next release has LDAP protocol built in.
Extremely important in corporate environment.

Maybe RT didn't want us to play with sound too much, untill mp3, streaming
support etc. are added? :-)

I don't understand why sound feature is only in /Pro version. As I'm doing
electronic music/fx for about 10 years(some old czech games..now just for
hobby with my friend Rebolek in our little studio) I cannot understand what
RT thinks "proffesional" on simple playing samples? I would accept sound
feature in /Pro version only when it would have been made in "Pro" style.
For example: programmable mixer with support of basic effects like delay,
reverb, distortion...,native fourier transform support(very useful for
programming own effect processors), MP3 format support, different kind of
sound port buffering, streaming possibility etc.
I think that a lot of users who buy /Pro key looking for current sound
ability will be dissapointed..."50 bucks for replaying samples???"...and
this is not really good for RT.
Another issue is Rebol browser plug-in...Will RT sell /Pro plug-ins for
users who wants to hear sound in their lovely reblets?? Sounds like bad joke
;-)
RT: LET THE SOUND BE FREE!!!

Yes. This may seem back to front, but I haven't bought View/Pro yet
because sound support (and encryption) is only in Pro. I want to be
able to distribute the scripts I write without them being crippled
for some users. From my point of view, there's no point in adding
sound to a script when most users couldn't hear it.
As to encryption being in the free version, I'd say it's even more
inportant than sound. Privacy and security is very important and not
having encryption in all REBOLs will be a turn-off to a lot of
people.
The reason to buy Pro should be for its ability to link to your
standard apps and the like, (and will be in my case), and not to get
sound and encryption. Not having them in the free versions makes
buying Pro a less attractive option. (IMHO, of course).

I guess there's some people who want the advantages of Pro but are not
thinking of using REBOL for commercial purposes, so two products
perhaps makes sense in that case. But then, some may use Pro for
commercal purposes without getting a licence, but that applies to the
free REBOLs too. RT should know by now whether there's good reason
to have two versions going by how many of each they've been selling.

Pass.
