I'm using the xxx041.tar.gz versions and didn't have to make any changes.
Did you try using a different Xshell? (like Command Tool).
Also have you tried using /View or ?Command?
Using xterm, i only get the segmentation fault message using /Core, both
/View and /Command work ok.
I'm also logged in as root.
