[REBOL] Re: Updated REBOL Core PDF

From: berniegs:prodigy at: 7-Sep-2005 20:47

Hi, Personally, I detest the PDF format for manuals and other documentation. I much prefer HTML. It's quicker to download, and it's much less cumbersome for reading and searching. And from HTML, PDF lovers can easily and cheaply convert the HTML to PDF via the freeware HTMLDOC program or the OpenOffice Writer. But It's nearly impossible to go from a PDF document to another format. In fact, HTML is one of the most versatile and flexible formats for documentation because it can be easily formatted and styled, and it is so easy to convert it to any number of other formats with the styling preserved, e.g., DOC, PDB, PDF, RTF, text, etc. I find it very uncomfortable to read manuals on a PC screen, even an HTML document, so I often download them to my PocketPC, settle back in my easy chair, and have a good read. PDF documents are enormous memory hogs, and Adobe's PPC reader doesn't do a very good job with bookmarks, hyperlinks, illustrations, etc. I'd be perfectly happy living in a world where I'd never have to read another PDF document.
