Here's where the (extra) spam comes from

Heya sterling,

And you're wondering where the spam is coming from! I didn't sign up
to this list to have my E-mail address placed on a web page. You ought
to know better than this, this is how spammers GET e-mail addresses in
the first place; they run their own web spiders looking for addys.

Well, NLQ should be eminently suited to the task :-)

#22-Apr-01# Message from *Mat Bettinson*:
Hi Mat,
> And you're wondering where the spam is coming from!
Do some research before having a go at someone offering REBOL users a
service. There has been a web based archive of this list for many months,
Sterling's site is probably a minor factor in any spam you may or may not
recieve. To put it in context - I've been on this list since mid September
last year and I get 3 or 4 spam messages PER MONTH at most. It most
certainly isn't this list, or any web archive of it, that is leading to any
spam you get.
Perhaps you post to Usenet? Perhaps your email is somewhere on eurogamer's
site?

If you're having spam email problems, use:
http://spamcop.net
It's free and notifies the appropriate sites to take action.

As others have commented, this list archive has been running for quite
some time (1.5 years+) which is not to say that a spider could not
have just hit it now. I've been meaning to change email addresses on
the postings so they are not addresses anymore but never had the time.
There is also at least one (most likely more) other online list
archive at some place that does archives of apparently any list people
sign it up for. It may well be one of these other archives that is at
fault.
RT does not release names, addresses, or any other information
gathered by any means (user lists, purchase orders, etc.) to anybody,
any company, or anything any which way.
I still intend to de-address the archive on REBOL.org and I'll do it
as soon as I can. I value my privacy and the size of my inbox as much
as anybody. The web proxy I wrote in REBOL and use filters out
cookies sent by doubleclick.net because I don't like having some goofy
company track me as I wander the web. I don't want "targeted
marketing." When I need something, I go find it myself.
I understand where you're coming from and I'll try to get this
resolved as soon as possible so that, at the least, REBOL.org is not a
danger to anybody.
