Rugby 4 IOS contest

 [1/12] from: m::koopmans2::chello::nl at: 26-Sep-2001 19:11

Hi, Rugby is more or less feature complete. I am thinking of renaming the distro to something that will more match its natural partner IOS (of course docs will be expanded, better look and feel, etc) This should also help a little bit in expanding Rebols marketing reach. I am thinking of 'IOS Connector' Anybody a better idea? The winner gets an honorable mention in the README ;-) --Maarten

Hi, I would prefer Rugby to have a name like 'I-Broker'. (Internet/IOS Broker) What do you think?

Sounds good! And it doesn't exist yet, according to Google. Let's see what the rest thinks. Currently your suggestion is on pole position ;-) --maarten

I don't have a name but a question. I'm using core on the server as one would expect. I don't think core can use timer events like view ( correct me if I'm wrong ), so would it be possible to enable a repeating process while serving? eg: serve [ exported functions ] [ ] or serve [ exported functions [ timed process ] -- Graham Chiu

You are right. You can change hip-serv to use non-blocking waits to achieve this effect, but... it will eat your CPU (the original version of Rugby did this). Unless the timeout is rather long ( in the order of seconds). BTW: the main change is the /http-deferred refinement and the functions http-result-ready? and get-http-result This should be enough for you, that's the main addition. --Maarten

How about turninh things on their head ( a la "less" in gnu/linux ) .. For "broker" - "richer" ? Phil

Aww - I like Rugby. All New Zealanders like Rugby. South Africans like Rugby, the Welsh like Rugby, umm, all the world would like Rugby if only they'd pick up that stupid round ball and see how much more fun life is when you use your hands as well. (; Miami, Java, Opera, Amiga, Macintosh, etc., etc. all give you no indication at all of what the product is, but those who don't know won't feel ashamed about asking what it is - whereas if it seems to be related to something they should know about but don't, they may just nod their head wisely - and remain silent. I say keep Rugby.

You are right! Combining some suggestions, you get: ----- Rugby ------ the Internet richer, not broker
