A lingua franca for the Internet

Anyone else here read "The Economist"?
There's an interesting article in this week's edition (22-28Sep01,
Technology Quarterly page 16) on the future of programming languages: "A
lingua franca for the Internet"
Though it doesn't mention Rebol, it could almost be a manifesto for RT.....
....programming languages face a daunting challenge of helping to turn the
Internet into a more intelligent place
(due to the Internet) the elegance of computer languages--so dear to
software gurus--has been sacrificed for easy of use....hence the rise of the
quick-and-dirty scripting languages
....a programming language that incorporates concepts from artificial
intelligence (like Lisp, Prolog) will no doubt appear when the time is
right---and leave the likes of Java and C# by the wayside
It is...within the realms of a small start-up's aspirations to develop the
(replacement for the) Java language
(Bits in braces my attempt to add context to short quotes).
The full article should be online, but I think www.economist.com operate a
pay-per-view for a few weeks after publication.
Tell your CEO/CIO that you've found the language the Economist is prophecying!

I have sent an email to:
[letters--economist--com]
subject: REGARDING "A lingua franca for the Internet" REBOL
I reserve the right to whine and complain - but I "plug" rebol every
chance I get :>)
