Technically Advanced, but Socially... ?

Years ago, while realizing newfound power of dialog with members of large
email groups, I would say things (in email) that implied that I was smart
and correct, while implying (very slyly, sometimes) that others were
completely wrong or stupid. Partly, I think I must have been hooked on the
adrenaline rush I got when reading how excited or upset other people could
get when they reacted.
It took a while for me to get thru that stage, but fortunately I had some
good friends that helped me.
When I saw someone else (obviously intelligent) on this list do the same
flame-attracting stuff I once was good at, I instinctively deleted all of
his emails, and almost made a kill filter for him. Then I had second
thoughts, and am now experimenting with what I hope is a more positive
solution. I'm spending as little adrenaline on this as possible (or none),
and will try to spend no more time than it took to write this.

Hi Ken,
I think, that there is a lot that can be done in this area, indeed.
Shouldn't there be a set of suggested rules to obey, to help the list
members with their communication efforts?

P.S. I don't like some properties of windows too (reinstalled the system
twice in 60 days), but, unfortunately, until now I haven't found anything,
that suits my needs better.

There might be a set of rules already, or there might not. In any case, I
think that it should be common sense how to write nicely, without insulting
people. I was only trying to reach one person on the list who's been rude
recently, but I didn't want to single him out publically and make him
defensive. I don't I didn't bother too many 'innocent' bystanders!

I agree. I added the sig after I got tired of my father constantly
complaining about Microsoft software, but he continued to use it anyway.
For most of us, there still is no better choice! I'm actually pretty happy
with windows.
What city are you in? My wife and daughters visited Prague and a few places
(eg the Mozart museum) a couple of years ago. We're pretty heavily into
Dvorak, Janacek, etc. I wish I could spend a couple weeks there myself,
even if I could just attend a few concerts and hear some street music.

I don't feel totally innocent too, but when I recall my communication
efforts, such a "difference" in point of view and a "hot" discussion always
inspired me to write something that was useful even for me at the end,
because the fact of being convinced about the truth is not as good as a more
thorough knowledge of the subject.
I live in Liberec, a city that is 100 km from Prague, and until recently I
worked in Prague.
