Parakey...

 [1/2] from: carl:cybercraft at: 3-Nov-2006 15:34

From here... http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/nov06/4696 'Ross’s answer is named Parakey. As he describes it, from a user’s point of view, Parakey is “a Web operating system that can do everything an OS can do.” Translation: it makes it really easy to store your stuff and share it with the world.' And... 'Ross wants independent developers to create a variety of applications for Parakey. To that end, he and Hewitt have created a programming language for Parakey that they call JUL, a mashed-up acronym that stands for “Just another User interface Language.”' The Ross is Blake Ross, one of the main guys behind Firefox, so Parakey will get a lot of attention when it launches. And it sounds quite similar to IOS, except it's bound to have a standard web interface. -- Carl Read.

In a similar vein, YouOS has been around for a while. https://www.youos.com/ It works pretty well on Windows & Mac (for Firefox & IE), but I don't know about other platforms/browsers. Sounds like Parakey may go a lot deeper, but I thought I'd mention YouOS in case you didn't know about it. On 11/3/06, Carl Read <carl-cybercraft.co.nz> wrote:
