QubeOS - network OS ...

Hi, just found info about tiny "OS" - http://www.qubeos.com/ It doesn't do much .... hey Cyphre, what's with your SwisNG ideas? :-) -pekr-

Hi Pekr, Yes, I've been watching OS lately and Qube could really become interesting. I tried d/l the SDK but the zip file I got was not correct. Since the same executable file will run on Win32, Dos and Linux, I would really be interested in seeing REBOL Core/View ported to it ! Now I could install Freedos, use Qube and REBOL in the most simple setup ;) Who needs more ? I've looked at OS mainly because I don't like what I'm using : W2K, but I need it somehow for my PDA synchronization, Linux (mandrake) I found unreliable with my hardware configuration... So basically I'm looking at other offers : QNX : outstanding, I was able to boot only using the CD ! it said it couldn't create a swap file on my NTFS drives, but otherwise I was still able to try it out and eventually installed it on a FAT partition. I have found QNX to be quite stable ! REBOL/Core only ;| Atheos.cx : really interesting ! No REBOL ;( BeOS : Waiting for Palm to make a move with it before spending too much time on it ! Rebol/core/view ;) Freebsd : Next d/l However, I have to wonder what is the current plan at Rebol/HQ. Are they still developping/porting Rebol/core/view/ios to other platforms ? Or have turned toward providing Rebol solutions with Rebol/IOS as Rebol script developers as opposed to Rebol developers? Best, Chris

I know what you are trying to suggest - RebolOS :-) Well, DOS is 16bit and so it will not be ported. You have to choose another underlying core technology ....

Yes, QNX is imo the most viable of all alternatives currently. I wonder why View exists for Amiga for e.g., if there really is no market, while QNX is being left behind. As for other alternatives, as AtheOS, - I would wait. Porting Rebol to new platform surely takes some resources, so RT needs to be carefull here. AtheOS is not proven/well established system yet imo, while QNX seems to be one of the top Rtos solutions around ...

Yes, I was joking at RT already, stating that RT developed nice toy for themselves, so they code in Rebol, rathet than in C :-) The best scenariou would be of course, if all RT team could implement/develop further technology itself, while skilled Rebollers could work under contract for RT, to produce reblets .... -pekr-
