Congratulations, Elan!

I've now actually seen REBOL: THE OFFICIAL GUIDE (first shipment arrived in our warehouse today). Super good job, Elan! Congratulations. This book is a must have, folks! This is a MASSIVE TOME at 728 pages, weighing 3 lbs., 5 oz. I've just had time to peruse it briefly but have seen lots of useful stuff. And, yes, we're shipping books! They would arrive on a Friday<g>, but I've already laid on some overtime for tomorrow to finish getting all the orders in hand filled. Both people getting books next week and my warehouse people will be happy. --Ralph Roberts

Thanks Ralph. I'm in the process of setting up a mailing list for the book, for errata, bug fixes, and support. You can subscribe to RTOG (REBOL The Official Guide) list at http://www.techscribe.com I had two goals with this book: 1. To make it possible for a person who has never programmed before to learn to program using REBOL (chapters 2 - 6). 2. My main intention, however, was to provide as much usable code as I was able to squeeze into this book with (typically) line-by-line explanations. (Intermediate Programming, Chapters 7-14)... 3. ... and to demonstrate that REBOL - though typically used as a scripting language - can be used to implement complex and large applications that would usually require compiled languages such as C, C++, or Pascal. In chapters 16 - 22 I present (albeit a simple, but usable) distributed database management system (DDBMS), that is supported by a Consumer Database Dialect (CDD), based on the block oriented parse functions. (String oriented parsing is explained in Chapter 12). I think that the chapters that implement the DDBMS can also be viewed as a collection of programming techniques and useful source code fragments, that can be reused in other situations.

Did you see the tiny fonts they used for the introduction?
