IOS and Personal Firewalls
[1/6] from: robert::muench::robertmuench::de at: 14-Oct-2003 15:08
Hi, I'm currently testing the virus & personal firewall "bitdefender"
(www.bitdefender.com) If bitdefender is active I can connect to a IOS
server but I can't launch any Reblet. IOS seems to do something "special"
when launching a Reblet. Does someone use bitdefender as well and can
confirm this behaviour? I really don't have a clue what the problem is.

AFAIK reblets connect to desctop through tcp/ip.
maybe your firewall thinks connections from localhost to localhost are wrong
and tries to defend your bits?

Hi, good point, I forgot about this. But I checked the firewall stuff, it
has a very simple rule engine. Where I have created an entry for
rebol-link.exe. The rule I have set is:
Type (UDP/TCP)
Direction both
Action Permit
Application rebol-link.exe (with path)
Ports Any
Addresses Any
IMO this should work... really strange.

Hi, one more. I noticed that an other rebol-link process is started and
everythings seems to be fine (no error messages) but the GUI isn't
displayed... the process is a zombie process.

Hi Robert,
isn't it DNS look-up process? IIRC Holger said they use second process
to achieve better async behavior, but maybe he was talking only Linux
version, do not remember exactly ... btw - I tried Zone Alarm some time
ago and as I had some problems with IOS too, I removed it ... It is bad
there are still some problems ...

Hi, I don't think so, because the firewall should pop-up and ask about it.
But there seems nothing to happen that tirggers the firewall. Robert
