Gavin McKenzie's XML libraries
[1/6] from: brianwisti::yahoo::com at: 27-Dec-2004 16:00
Hi all,
After a whole heck of a lot of poking, prodding, and begging on
Google.com, I was able to find a copy of Gavin McKenzie's XML parsing
libraries. They don't appear to be in the rebol.org script library.
Would it be okay for me to upload them? I don't intend to take
ownership of them or anything like that (although I might make my own
tweaked version later), but I would like to make them available at a
major outlet such as the script library.
I wouldn't even ask if these were my files, but they aren't, and I
don't really know what terms Gavin made them available under.
Kind Regards,
Brian Wisti

I'm not sure why they aren't there. Send him an email to see what he
thinks and, if you get no response, I'd say you could put them on
REBOL.org. We would remove them at his request of course. The copy I
have here is pretty old (0.7.2 from September 2001). No license listed
in that version.

Gavin's stuff is tough to find isn't it? I tried to track it down myself a
couple of months ago. Found it in a PDF -- as an appendix to an academic paper.
There are loads and loads of excellent but lost, or hard to find, REBOl
scripts around. Peter Wood and I have a list of useful scripts embedded in ML
posts. Also, there are loads of good things in the now ex-REBOL Altme world.
All those scripts are, in effect, lost to the wider REBOL community.
I *doubt* that is what the owners' would have wanted. But, without further
confirmation from them, I'd personally wouldn't add someone else's work to the
REBOL.org Library -- tempting though that is.
What we need is an occasional Library volunteer who has the time (and, more
useful, the tenacity) to track down the owners of these little gems and seek
permission to republish them in the Library.
It's on my list of things to do. But in my case, it isn't likely to happen in
any year containing a 4 or a 5.
If someone has got the time to give this a go, please let me know,
Thanks!

BTW, you (and anyone else :) have my permission to upload to the
library anything I posted here or somewhere else that didn't have
any specific license attached. (When a script I write doesn't have
a license, you can assume it is public domain.)
Regards,
Gabriele.

If it wasn't for http://web.archive.org/robots.txt, you would probably find http://web.archive.org/web/20030411094732/www3.sympatico.ca/gavin.mckenzie/
in the RIX. (I found it on rebol.org.)

A copy of the most "recent" version (0.7.4 of %xml-parse.r and 1.0.4
of %xml-object.r) is bundled with rebXR:
