 [1/15] from: jasonic:nomadics at: 26-Aug-2004 21:30

I am very happy to say just found instructions how to install Rebol plugin for lovely new Firefox browser.... http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ By default if you are using Firefox and go the Rebol plugin page at http://www.rebol.com/news4301.html and click the demos link http://www.rebol.net/plugin/demos/ it says 'Rebol Plugin is only available for Internet Explorer' :-(( FIREFOX REBOL PLUG-IN INSTRUCTIONS 1. Install Active-X Firefox extension http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/plugin.htm#download Select pre-compiled for Mozilla 1.7 and its javascript "click here" link. The note reads "Does not work in Firefox 0.9 / 0.9.1 ". I am using Firefox 0.93 and it installed perfectly 2. Close all Firefox windows and then restart Firefox 3. Now return to Rebol Plugin Demos page http://www.rebol.net/plugin/demos/ Voila! Have fun I hope these instructions will be added to the Rebol.com website. And also a nice all-in-one package should be Submitted to the Firefox Extensions catalog at http://update.mozilla.org/extensions/ Merci beaucoup to those smart Rebol francophones for this info http://www.codeur.org/forum/message.php?sujet=2338&theme=17 'shadwolf' posted the solution there just 4 days ago -- Jason

I've noticed one slight difference between them. In IE you don't need to use the full path to the script as launchURL's value - just the script name will do if it's in the same directory as the webpage. In Firefox however, the full path's required. Anyone any idea what's at fault here - who this should be reported to? -- Carl Read

First, I installed the latest Firefox just to be sure I was using the same one as Jason. (Ie, 0.93, though it's possible 0.92 would work.) Then I went to... http://www.iol.ie/~locka/mozilla/plugin.htm#download where you'll find a table of text and links under a heading saying: "Download the precompiled Plug-in". The link to use is the "Click here" one in the first row of the table, the row labeled: Mozilla 1.7 Does not work in Firefox 0.9 / 0.9.1 Note it's a JavaScript link, so you need to have JavaScript turned on for it to work. (And hence why we can't just give you the link. Grrr!:) It installs automatically if I remember correctly, so after that you should only need to restart Firefox to get things working. If it still doesn't work, try uninstalling the plugin - instructions here... http://www.rebol.net/plugin/tests/plugin-guide.html#section-7 then go to the test page here... http://www.rebol.net/plugin/tests/test.html and see what happens. Older versions of the plugin are supposed to automatically update, but I had problems with one that wouldn't. I think the problem was the URL path one I mentioned in a previous post though, meaning that was why it didn't seem to be working - not because the plugin wouldn't update. Best of luck! -- Carl Read

you should also put a note on the page, to remember to set the option to allow firefox to allow software installs, with a small screen grab of the options page to do it... cause although java and javascript are enabled, it would not download the activeX plugin... it does not tell you anything, so you think that the link is bad or broken... -MAx
