[OT] MindMaps ?

 [1/4] from: ingo:h-o-h at: 18-Feb-2003 9:56

Hi All, after having stumbled over "the MindMap book" I wanted to ask whether anyone here has experience with MindMaps, especially Mindmap Software? Which Software do you like, why? What is missing? Kind regards, Ingo

I use something called "TheBrain" ( http://www.thebrain.com ). I don't really classify it as a full mindmap software. But it does allows to me to organise data in a less structured way. Example, I can create a node called "Rebol". And this node can be link to "Rebol" (the company), or "Rebol" under programming languages. Documents/URL can be attached to the node as well as notes can be associated with it. I can also search (only the nodes name) and it gives me a list of results to choose from. Why it can replace the file manager to a certain extent, it does not have the integration of archives software like zip. Built-in zip support would be good. Multi-platform will also be good. Additional search capabilities on "documents" and "notes" levels would be good. Best YekSoon At 09:56 AM 18-02-03 +0100, you wrote:

Hi Ingo, ihoho> after having stumbled over "the MindMap book" I wanted to ask whether ihoho> anyone here has experience with MindMaps, especially Mindmap Software? Like YekSoon, I've looked at TheBrain - as well as a couple others - but it was some time ago, and none of them grabbed me enough to spend much time with them. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I keep thinking about things like EccoPro, SideKick, etc. that seemed to be so darn useful, only now they're all dead. Check out Robert's RFM project, though, and see how close that is to what you're thinking about. I'm sure he'd like more people involved. -- Gregg

I have a license of theBrain but don't like the constraint imposed on the nodes: you can't arrange them yourself so for complex maps it is not practical. On sourceforge you can find a mindmap software done in Java : would be great if it existed in Rebolview :)
