Inc. Uh, what? :-) Well, why not to licence it to RT to have it in /Core by default? It would be good to have it available by default. However, I just also hope it WILL be free and RT will NOT charge any money here, or they will screw last die hard rebollers here ... But I think that it will not happen and I would welcome more mySQL-like schemes being present in Core default distribution ... it simply raises its value ... .. maybe Thomas Jensen's XML-RPC could be another case? -pekr-

DOC-KIMBEL You state in your MY_SQL scheme usage guide that your excellent REBOL example currently has no license and is open source, however once it reaches version 1.0 for release that you will probably sign it over to REBOL Technologies Inc. I would like to appeal to you to make it available under a DUAL licensing options. Firstly if whatever terms REBOL Technologies Inc. choose to use, if indeed they do. Secondly I suggest you may wish to also make it available as open source under the BSD license, a sample of which is included below. This would enable it's inclusion in future open source versions of OSCAR: :REBOL It would also ensure people using only /Core have open available access to database functionality which is very important to REBOL's future versus open source alternatives like PERL, PYTHON, RUBY et al. Sharriff Aina amongst others have already had problems persuading their employers to use REBOL when database functionality is only available via /Command for $250 US Dollars. Why not use PYTHON or PERL which currently have more database connectivity modules and a free. For REBOL database connectivity it is important that your 'scheme is available as open source enabling people to use it, study & learn from it, make improvements to it and freedom to re-distribute it and copy it. My two cents worth. Mark Dickson The BSD License The following is a BSD license template. To generate your own license, change the values of OWNER, ORGANIZATION and YEAR from their original values as given here, and substitute your own. Note: The advertising clause in the license appearing on BSD Unix files was officially rescinded by the Director of the Office of Technology Licensing of the University of California on July 22 1999. He states that clause 3 is ``hereby deleted in its entirety.'' Note the new BSD license is thus equivalent to the MIT License, except for the no-endorsement final clause. <OWNER> = Regents of the University of California <ORGANIZATION> = University of California, Berkeley <YEAR> = 1998 In the original BSD license, the first occurrence of the phrase "COPYRIGHT HOLDERS AND CONTRIBUTORS" in the disclaimer read "REGENTS AND CONTRIBUTORS". Here is the license template: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -- Copyright (c) <YEAR>, <OWNER> All rights reserved.
