XML-RPC is coming to Rugby

 [1/7] from: koopmans:itr:ing:nl at: 13-Dec-2001 8:48

Hi All, I am currently integrating XML-RPC as a transport option to Rugby, thanks to the great work of Andreas and Gavin. As many people have asked this in private emails I thought I'd share this on the list. It may take some time though (maybe a day, maybe a month). --maarten

Make it an option, not necessity though - I personally know/use no system, using XML-RPC. Its rather proprietary, in comparison to SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, protocols of future business system data exchange, backed by companies lik MS, Oracle, Sun .... ... just a thought ... :-) -pekr- Maarten Koopmans wrote:

I personally don't use XML-RPC but I'm glad to see you pushing Rebol / Rugby ahead in the messaging area. Good news :) Brett.

The point is simple: You have REBOL, which allows you to easily implement services. You do want simple acces from other languages as well, and XML-RPC for REBOL is already there. Might as well integrate it.... --Maarten

Pekr, NO! Do you want to redefine the meaning of "proprietary"? ;-) XML-RPC is much much more in line with REBOL than SOAP ever could be. It's hasn't necessarily achieved the elegance level of our fave language, but it is _heavily_ used by lots of people - for backend communication, intranet connection, where the giants would like you to use (the messy, messy) SOAP instead. Public web services aren't half as interesting as internal ones. Best regards, -- Chris BTW, thanks again, Maarten!

Well - a little bit of analogy - we all know that there are better OSes than W95 ... I mean - big folks in companies, selling big products, will propagate web services, not matter what we, small fish, are doing. Our only chance is to support THEIR standards, or be doomed in corporate environments .... As for public web services - I can imagine having some - why to have some clumsy cgi web interface, if you can have fully async communication, message based? Those messages will use XML/SOAP imo .... No offense to Rugby supporting whatever :-) -pekr-

Point to note: Some small fishes eventually grow to be big fishes. Other fishes tend to copy the behavior of the successful fishes. Well, maybe fish dont really mimic another, but humans and companies surely do. Thus so, REBOL's success is directly related to ours. --Ryan Petr Krenzelok wrote:

-- Ryan Cole Programmer Analyst www.iesco-dms.com 707-468-5400 The contradiction so puzzling to the ordinary way of thinking comes from the fact that we have to use language to communicate our inner experience which in its very nature transcends lingistics. -D.T. Suzuki
