View on A1200 crash

 [1/5] from: alexander::riachtchenko::planet-interkom::de at: 31-May-2001 12:00

Hi Carl, hallo everybody; excusé moi - i tryed core for both amiga 68k and 68k+, and view (newest) on A1200 Classic with harddrive(2MB) - it craches with "not enoutgh memory" which "shoud'nt occur" Am i supposed to have more on memory or other hardware to run it? I were actually running just amigashell on it. Thanks, Sascha. Carl Sassenrath schrieb:

You'll need more memory, Sascha. Core on my A1200 uses about 2megs and View 4.3megs, and that's before you start running any scripts. View especially can use up lots of memory as it treats all graphics as 24bit. You can run View scripts that are not too graphic-intensive on a 16meg Amiga, but I'd recommend 32megs or more for comfort. -- Carl Read [carl--cybercraft--co--nz]

Hello Sascha, I'm afraid 2Mb of RAM couldnot be enough even for running Rebol/core on Amiga. Rebol/view requires about 6 megs of fast ram just for starting itself. I'm using /View on Amiga with 2MBchip and 32MB fast and even this is not enough for some applications. I think the memory consumption is probably the same on all systems. So you should have enhace you A1200 (at least 32MB of memory, turboboard at least 68040/40) or even better buy some old PC crap(for example AMD [K5--90Mhz]) like me with at least 64Mb RAM. This config would be enough for start-up with REBOL/View. Regards Cyphre BTW The memory consumption under /View is really big - I cannot imagine to run it on PDA machines. What about some otptimalization RT?

Thanks Carl, would you also recommend those turbocards with up to 32mgs memory on it? - i new to amiga scene- thanks Sascha. Carl Read schrieb:

A turbo card is very recommended, as it speeds up not only view, but everything else too. /Regards Stefan Falk - www.amigaextreme.com
