[Rebol.org] Library look'n'feel

 [1/10] from: SunandaDH:aol at: 12-Dec-2004 18:13

Roland (errru on Altme) has done an amazing job of creating a new look'n'feel for the Library. Please tell us what you think: http://www.rebol.org There will inevitably be the odd cross-browser bug left; so the sooner you tell us about it, the quicker we can fix it. With lots of thanks to Roland for his work on this Sunanda

Looks very nice - I don't have time for a detailed look, but doesn't the sidebar clash with the Welcome to Rebol.org part of the page? -goes back to math homework-

Well, I kinda got accustomed to the old greenish slow paced look'n'feel, so it kinda came as shock ... Looks good, loads faster, no problems so far. Thanks! Ingo

The only thing I could see is that the font size is to small but using control panel I was able to pick a css style that suited my eyes.Is there a way to save that css as my default? Did not see that option using control panel

Looks very nice but I get a huge Rebol logo about 500 pixels wide in Safari in MacOSX. -- Regards Henrik Mikael Kristensen

Thanks for all the comments so far. Henrik:

Safari seems to want to paint the logo large, even though the image is only 179 pixels wide. I've made some changes in an attempt to get Safari to stick to a sensible width. I don't have a MAC to see if it has made any difference, so if you could check again, I'd be much obliged. Alan:

If you are not logged on, no. You'd have to add ?csss=xxxxx or &css=xxxxx to every URL. If you are logged on, then yes. Selecting a CSS style makes it your default. No need to save it as such. If you look towards the bottom of the left-hand menu, you should see something like.... membership logoff Alan ... css:xxxxxxx .....where xxxxxx tells you which CSS set you are using. Ingo:

We can make the "classic" look'n'feel available as an option if enough people want it. But there is no need for anyone to feel stuck with whatever official look'n'feel we provide. You can make up your own.... http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/css-available.r .....shows you examples of what people have done. I strongly recommend trying Hallvard's (user name hallyhaa) as an excellent and quite different appearance. Sunanda

It's always good to have alternatives, so it's excellent that your design exists. Among other things, it shows off the flexibility of using CSS and REBOL for web work Of course, it'll be annoying for you if you want to start tweaking Errru's design while having to keep your existing design because so many people want to use it. I'm sure we can work around that (multiple CSS sets per person, maybe), but give me some time to think about it. Sunanda

Opera: Font on the left is to small. Everything else looks great. I'm missing a new-scripts search button, which shows the new scripts of the last 7/14/30 days :-)) Robert

Thanks. We're still twiddling with things, so please keep the reports coming

There's not room for every possible button :-) Some suggestions: --The New and Improved lists the last 60 days changes. --The Script Library home page lists the last dozen or so changes, regardless of date (useful if nothing has changed in the last 60 days -- it'll still show entries) --To customise a search the way you want, use the API: do http://www.rebol.org/library/public/lds-local.r res: lds/send-server 'list-updated-scripts [7] probe res/data/script-list == ["free-mem.r" "garmin-protocol.r" "mdp-gui-v1.r" "mdpgui1-1.r" "rss.r" "style-scrollable.r" "test-style-scrollable.r"] -- Or set your notices profile (via the Control panel) to email you. The logo is at correct size now, but the left column still takes up about 500px width of the page.
