PIM anyone?

Hi, are there any known efforts for developing an integrated fullfeatured email, todo-list and calendar application (like MS Outlook) with REBOL? What would you view as the main REBOL-spesific obstacles for the development of such thing? Best regards, Mikko Mäkelä

Hi Mikko, << are there any known efforts for developing an integrated fullfeatured email, todo-list and calendar application (like MS Outlook) with REBOL? >> There is a Yahoo group working on a mail client tentatively called RebMail, though things have stalled a bit since the terrorist attack in the U.S. Etienne Alaurent(?) has developed a Virtual Office workspace where all the components are plug-ins, though I'm not sure what his release plans are. << What would you view as the main REBOL-spesific obstacles for the development of such thing? >> Compared to any other language? Very few. There are example scripts already out there, including InLook and Phil Bevan's complete GUI mail reader that do the mail part. Carl himself wrote the to-do list app that's on the main REBOL desktop demo page. I think there are some examples of calendars as well. Looking at what the new IOS reblets have to offer (see the REBOL web site), it may also be practical to go that route if you're building a custom solution. --Gregg

At this time, many i-Services (components or plug-ins) for VIRTUAL Office, like e-mail client, todo-list, calendar app, ... are planed. For the moment, I'm debugging the glue code and after I will publish a paper to expain the API and how VIRTUAL Office works. From time to time, I will publish some interesting parts of the code.
