Index Needed In Rebol Users Guide
[1/2] from: louisaturk::eudoramail::com at: 12-Jan-2002 15:02
Carl,
I'm glad you brought this up. One of the biggest aggravations in trying to
learn rebol is not having an index in the printed User Guide. A really
good index is vital in my opinion. I have to bring up an on-line version
and run a search. That works fine if I am at my computer, but I learn best
relaxing in a nice overstuffed chair with my feet up. I strongly hope the
need edition of the users guide will have a good index.
It would also be fine with me for the manual to be set in slightly smaller
type so that sample scripts don't have to be split across pages. But then
I have good eyes for seeing up close. Other's might not like this. But I
think everyone would like to have a really good (complete) index.
By the way does anyone know when the next edition will be coming out?

I've thought of writing a script to parse the HTML version of the
guide and somehow generate an index from that, but I'm sure it's a
lot easier to say than do, and how you'd get the book's page numbers
from the HTML version I wouldn't know - perhaps you'd have to take
the PDF version into account as well. Would be an interesting
exercise, but I would've much prefered to just spend a few extra
dollars for a book with an index.

The last mention on this list from RT that I can remember was that
they were typing as fast as they could on a View guide, but that was
many, many (full) moons ago. I assume it'll appear after the next
View makes an appearance. (But please don't ask when that'll be:)
