Multimedia REBOL - Lessons from Linux

 [1/1] from: jjmmes::yahoo::es at: 11-Jul-2003 21:50

If the goal is to make REBOL a widespread platform, then I think the Linux analogy might hold some value 1) Business should not drive the platform. I mean, the company should do whatever to survive and go for the long term but at the same time invest in the platform to provide technical value over the competition. Carl should be able to coordinate better with existing great REBOL developers so that these work on top of the platform. If the platform doesn't advance faster technically it will get killed 2) To me the platform is the less sexy stuff that everybody else needs. In terms of multimedia it is providing the most basic stuff for the broad user base and at the same time the hooks for the innovators (seems this is the plugin architecture). To me, rather than build a Flash killer, REBOL should provide the pieces to have an image editing killer (compared to Adobe and GIMP) and then in later phases go for the loftier goals like Flash or let some other company build the products 3) If the platform has no clear focus it doesn't go anyware. In my opinion: Priority number 1 should be Core, the plugin architecture and decent licensing (to make developers succesful)
