ml dialect, scheme and rebol associations

Just came across this
http://www.ai.mit.edu/%7Egregs/ll1-discuss-archive-html/msg01827.html
(Succinctness, power, XML transformations) at [ll1-discuss--ai--mit--edu] and
I found it quite pleasant for the associations it evoked in my mind with
the ML dialect.

Thanks!
Is there anything in that message or the associated web site, that you feel
would be a good or useful addition to the ML dialect?

Not particularly, I suppose with the library restructuring that's going
on there'll be some sort of xml-tools download which will consist of
your ML dialect and Gavin's xml scripts, such as xml-object.r
One thing I was thinking about is that as the ML dialect now handle's
namespaces there could be a rebol namespace. If we defined some number
of REBOL agreed on metadata etc. then one could, when generating markup
with ML place namespaced attributes on a tag. I've found this to be
extremely useful in situations where you want to round trip, although
using tools other than Rebol.
For example one thing we do in our product when producing PDF is first
generate XSL-FO, we've set up a css-like system for handling styling of
the FO. The first run through of an FO instance sets styling through
classes, and generates a PDF, if one wants to further edit said PDF one
can examine Ids and types for portions of the FO tree.
So for example
<fo:block it:class="p" it:id="Welcomep11"
it:type="pInsideSection2ContainsTable">
.....
</fo:block>
This is of course an example specific to presentation, but if there were
some things specified that one could put out that we all agree on, then
xml-object could maybe be extended to allow it to better consume markup
generated with these namespaced declarations/attributes.
Anyway forgive me if this doesn't seem very clear here, as I haven't
given it a lot of thought, but hopefully it will strike someone as
interesting and there can be some discussion.

Just FYI, the first phase for the library project is just to clean
things up a bit and organize the existing entries better. Gavin's
stuff doesn't seem to be in there at this point.

First - thanks in advance for the efforts of everyone
involved in the library project. I'm not trying to be
pushy
with these questions, I'm just very interested
in the project and its results!
How is the library project going?
I may have missed it but has the description or
form this project is taking been discussed?
Any chance you can give us some timeframe for
when the results of the first phase are going to
be available?
Has a map of the phases been published?
Thanks, Rod.

Hi Rod,
RG> How is the library project going?
It's going well, we think. Like many volunteer projects, it has had
fits and starts, but we've had lots of good discussion and made lots
of progress.
RG> I may have missed it but has the description or
RG> form this project is taking been discussed?
Not publicly. What we want to do is release *something* and get
feedback on it. We're running the project on an IOS server and have
had *lots* of discussion there about various design and architectural
issues.
RG> Any chance you can give us some timeframe for

Soon, hopefully. :) We do have an internal target release date we've
set for ourselves, but we're not publicizing it. Should we *happen* to
miss it, we don't want people to be disheartened and think it's never
going to happen.
RG> Has a map of the phases been published?
Nope. We've been trying to come up with a set of long-range goals and
once we got those vaguely nailed down, we started focusing on phase I,
which is mainly just to get something out the door that will give
people an idea of the direction it's headed and show that we're alive.
We'll make an announcement here when we go live.
Thanks!

I understand, though not missing it would be
the newsworthy option in this business! :-)

Okay, thanks very much for the answers.
I look forward to the first phase whenever it
gets done. I also volunteer to help if there is
any way I can - docs, testing, review etc. I
understand though how adding more people
may not be a help at all depending on your
needs, just let me know.
Thanks, Rod.
