It's been about ...

... 2 months since the announcement that IOS was `reelased' but
I haven't seen any mention of its availability, or even the
likely terms of availability, since that point.
Since it was scheduled for `Fall 2001' and we are now well into
December, have I missed something, or is it just the usual
`real soon now' so common in the computer business?

Hi David,
Contact Cindy ([cindy--rebol--com]) for current information regarding IOS.

David,
If you read the page http://www.rebol.com/ios-intro.html you will see that
there is a link to register for evalution.
http://www.rebol.com/express-form.html, as you can imagine there is quite a
long queue of keen people who have applied for evaluation, many of them are
evaluating it now, but if you don't fill in the form your chances of an eval
are much less ;-)
Cheers,

Yes, that is correct. I evaluated 5 min after I found out announcement -
months back. Then I reminded Cindy some month ago, because I thought my
request was somehow lost ....
So, actually, the queue has to be very long ;-)

Hey Petr, try again. It's a LIFO queue :))

I did, and I did, a good long while ago, and I was told `sometime', but
sometime hasn't come around yet, and we're well a month further along.
The reason for the question was that I am writing a paper on collaborative
environments, and was going to include REBOL, but that will go by the boards
now as I never talk about `smoke', and until I see release dates and discussion
it's all `smoke' to me.
Then again, I'll probably revise the paper in 6 months, so there's always
another cycle.

[pure speculation follows...]
If RT has backed off its release dates, it could be
due to the Morpheus work. If I read the press-release
correctly, a new REBOL-capable Morpheus is targetted
for the end of 2001:
StreamCast, makers of Morpheus and next generation
peer-to-peer content distribution networks, will base
Morpheus 2.0 on REBOL's X Internet operating system
(IOS) technology to provide interactive programmable
content to more than 30 million users by the end of
the year.
