Syllable Server released with extensive REBOL support

 [1/2] from: kaj::syllable::org at: 16-Sep-2008 22:55

Hello list, Several of you know me from AltME, or even from IOS years back. I joined the mailing list because I have an announcement to make to the wider REBOL community. For six years now I have been working on the Syllable operating system and have integrated some REBOL support in it in the form of the ORCA clone. While Syllable is a unique system (which we call Syllable Desktop now), for the last few years I have also been creating a largely similar Linux distribution, which we call Syllable Server. We just released version 0.3 of Syllable Server, which both reaches a good level of usability as a server and includes a lot more REBOL functionality. One success we already achieved with it is that we are now listed on http://distrowatch.com/syllable , the major index of Linux distributions. Here's our press release: The third release of Syllable Server has been published. This is an important release, because it is the first one that focused on making the system actually usable as a server. A number of popular servers were added and configured, and also several innovative REBOL software stacks. Out of the imaginary box, Syllable Server is now ready for such things as accepting remote SSH log-ins over the network, running a web server on the Cheyenne <http://cheyenne-server.org/> REBOL server, running an FTP server and several more. Special attention has been paid to programmability, with support for developing Model-View-Controller web applications in QuarterMaster <http://www.ross-gill.com/QM/> and networking applications with the REBOL/Services <http://rebol.com/docs/services/> Service Oriented Architecture. The Genode <http://genode.org/> Nitpicker windowing system is also included. Read the rest in the full changelog <http://web.syllable.org/Server/Changes.txt>. An extensive manual <http://downloads.syllable.org/Linux/i486/systems/Server/0.3/README-SyllableServer-0.3.txt> was also written, which is easy to follow. As usual, both a BitTorrent download <http://downloads.syllable.org/Linux/i486/systems/Server/0.3/SyllableServer-0.3.i486.tar.7z?torrent> (preferred) and a regular download <http://downloads.syllable.org/Linux/i486/systems/Server/0.3/SyllableServer-0.3.i486.tar.7z> are available (80 MB 7-Zip archive). Please use the torrent if you can. I hope you can do something useful with this, and if you do, please let us know, maybe through dropping by at http://syllable.org . Regards, Kaj de Vos

Congratulations and thanks for promoting REBOL. I'll have to take a look at Syllable Server. On Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 4:55 PM, Kaj de Vos wrote:
