return to the red pill

I can't seem to lose my REBOL addiction . All the others don't have the same
feature set in one compact interpreter. Or no GUI, no encryption, no neat
networking....
Just played with IOS on the DEV server, so cool....
But I still think Core needs to be Core Pro (and View Pro) for everyone with
ssl support...

Glad to see you can't shake it. Hopefully RT is still listening to the ML
and will be able to blend their vision with our desires. For me, nothing
compares to REBOL so I hope we can all make it a viable platform.

For my case, I have been quietly observing the list and the various responses.
Much of my time is spend trying to sell REBOL IOS to paying customers.
Unfortunately, at this time, there is little progress. Part of it is
attributed to the
small REBOL developers base, pricing and also whether RT will be in for
the long haul.
The last point on RT is one that I ask myself very frequently. Primarily, I
have seen
little "marketing hype" on RT's web site. Little announcement on customer
adoption,
or positive partnership agreement, those that can help generate revenues.
I also feel that stuffs like /Command should be free. Yes, it sure hurts
potential revenue stream.
But, in return one can gain a much larger developer base and that can help
push adoption of IOS
as well.
Hope certain things will improve or swing to our favour :)

Unfortunately, it takes time. But, little by little the rest
of the world starts to understand and changes happen.
So, here's a bit of news that a REBOL consultant recently
sent to us and perhaps it can help with your pitch:
The Price Waterhouse Coopers Technology Outlook for 2002-2004
has listed REBOL as one of nine companies creating the next
generation of distributed Internet application platforms.
A good thing. Folks are starting to get it. Finally.

Hi Carl,
I love "IT", and this is the why I always look for new languages, new
technologies.
I think Rebol is a very good system, but it is not very famous, and I'm
afraid... why? Think about BeOS... wonderful OS, but unknown OS...
I'm afraid Rebol could follow the same way. And this is the why I think
you should publicize your product.
In my company, I already developed a small but very efficient
application (my boss told me it was very actractive!). My "client" told
me it was functional. But the problem is the same: my boss does not let
me create large applications since he thinks Rebol is still to precarius!
So I wanted to do somethink to help you to spread Rebol (I think even
other people in this ML think the same).
So my question is easy: What can I do to help you to spread Rebol? What
do you suggest?
bye!

Hi Alessandro,

Don't hype it too much, and deliver more than you promise. When they're
suitably impressed, make sure they know it was REBOL that made it possible.
Use guerilla tactics as well. Write small utilities with it, things that
people can use every day that don't take much time. Get them used to the
slightly different appearance of REBOL/View apps and build things they can't
live without.
Just my thoughts. I'm not part of RT.

Goo strategy. In fact my problem ia I cannot write huge applications
since my colleagues don't know this language, and I cannot develop a
program with a language that no body else know, and no body else is able
to maintain if I'm not in the office.
Small applications... I will try...
