Call me impetuous, but I went ahead and made a replacement list at eGroups for this list: Post message: [Rebol-List--egroups--com] Subscribe: [Rebol-List-subscribe--egroups--com] Unsubscribe: [Rebol-List-unsubscribe--egroups--com] List-owner: [Rebol-List-owner--egroups--com] Rebol-List-URL: http://www.egroups.com/group/Rebol-List Would anyone else like to be co-moderator, just in case I get run over by bus? Carl? Bo? Jedi Masters? Jedi Knights? And,... Should I go ahead and make these, more specific, lists? [Rebol-Core--egroups--com] [Rebol-View--egroups--com] [Rebol-Command--egroups--com] [Rebol-Express--egroups--com] [Rebol-Apache--egroups--com] They seem very clear to me and can be easily expanded to cover other products that Rebol-Crew will produce in future. I'd like a few "Yes" votes. :-) Andrew (Impetuous) Martin ICQ: 26227169 http://members.nbci.com/AndrewMartin/

Let me start by being totally honest and saying I hate egroups as they are a hidden spam engine. Let me also say that I run a listserver out of HouseofFusion.com for ColdFusion and JRun lists and its been going very well. I've also got the domain name RebolBase.com (being designed now, not mapped). I'd be quite happy to set up lists for Rebol by me rather than by egroups.

a hidden spam engine. I haven't found that to be the case, and, I've been on several eGroups lists for two years. They do send out adverts with each message, but this can be eliminated with the payment of small fee. Or even practically ignored by adding fifteen to twenty blank lines in your signature. The fee isn't much, and is certainly a lot less than Rebol-Crew must be paying for communications capacity. IIRC, Carl mentioned they were having gigabyte days, and initiated the discussion of moving the list to eGroups (or another server), so as to reduce that load on Rebol-HQ.

Perhaps you'd like to help pay the fee to eGroups to remove adverts from the eGroups list? Or can you afford to pay for a "gigabyte day"? I'm honestly curious, not intending to be sarcastic or condescending. Andrew (Impetuous) Martin ICQ: 26227169 http://members.nbci.com/AndrewMartin/

I've started 9 egroups lists and am a member of 52 others. Spam is non-existant all all the lists I am on. Most of them I just consult once in a while online to update myself. Some I keep on hand for occasional reference. A few I actually download in my mail program. They are incredibly easy to set up and maintain and are easy to change options for both moderators and members. Plus each list has 20M of file space, surveys, calenders, etc. However, if anyone wants to set up other lists and web pages, go for it. I am not saying that egroups is as good as it can possibly get, just explaining my experience with it. I believe better things are yet to come, and I will welcome them when they do. I also like the idea of all the specific lists. Great idea Andrew. [mdinowit--i-2000--com] said at Ò[REBOL] eGroups Rebol-List replacement list Re:Ó. If RT wants to close down their Selma based lists and migrate to a different service, I think they should a) create the lists they want to use; b) pipe the existing email addresses to the lists they create and c) send out automated invitations to users to continue using the new list(s) in place of the old Selma based lists. If you do NOT respond to these invitations you should be subscribed to the new lists. If you respond to the invitation with unsubscribe you're deleted from the list. d) Lists that are officially "owned" by RT should be maintained by RT employees exclusively! e) It would be helpful if they format of the new subject lines are announced on this list, before they migrate the lists. So that we can modify our filters accordingly. Just my 0.2 cents, Elan [rebol--phb--tesco--net] wrote:
