actually all altme worlds you are not already connected to are effectively gone. It does not mean the worlds are not there just that you can not reach them because the designed in single point of failure/control is being exercised. I imagine it will be back up before too long.

I see message that "World server is not responding" which is probably the server who knows the ip of the real Rebol3 world. I hope it will be fixed soon because I feel a little bit strangely without my Rebol altme worlds:-/ s> I can't connect to rebol3 and s> http://www.altme.com/cgi-bin/lookup.cgi shows s> *Name:* rebol3 s> *Status:* none s> What happened?

So, there is a world wide failure? On Jan 30, 2008 8:46 PM, Tom <Tom.Conlin-gmail.com> wrote:

Nope - email's still working - despite predictions of its imminent demise. ;-)

Carl, I was just making a pun :) But it's worrying that they haven't managed to get their "DNS" up and running after over 12 hours now. On Jan 31, 2008 7:51 AM, Carl Read <carl-cybercraft.co.nz> wrote:

I would suggest 59.95$/year, 25 domains, 10 millions queries per month ultra fast and easy to configure, world distributed DNS servers.. http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/ -will On 30-gen-08, at 20:01, Graham Chiu wrote:

I tried (experimentally) to create a new world... http://www.altme.com/lookup.html ...and got told the server was not responding. So it looks like the Safeworlds server is not working. As far as I know, a connection needs to check in with that server to get the real IP address of the world. (I was happily still connected to the REBOL worlds until I reconnected as a test. And couldn't -- so that's further evidence that the failure is at the Safeworlds server). It's been pointed out before (in this thread and others) that this single point of failure is a serious weakness for Altme. Sunanda

I can only speak for the tiny corner of the world I am in, which is pretty much adjacent to the part or the world Altme originates so since I can't get through from here the outlook is pretty bleak from further afield. Graham Chiu wrote:

Don't know yet, but I guess they'll be working on it to bring it up again. On Jan 30, 2008 8:26 PM, sqlab <sqlab-gmx.net> wrote:
