Protect-system

 [1/6] from: ptretter::charter::net at: 2-Jun-2001 11:14

Hmmm. I notice that if I do a protect-system and then type desktop in the console that I can no longer connect to the internet. What word should be unprotected? Seems like maybe there should be another protect-system that excludes whatever word is preventing connection to the internet. Paul Tretter

Hi Paul No problem here on Win98. I tried protect-system both in user.r and in the console prior to the desktop function, both with and without my typical user.r code. Connecting worked fine in all cases. Also, when there is a violation of protection, there is an error printed on the console indicating which protected word was being redefined. The fact that you did not see this error msg suggests that there was no violatation of protected words. -Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Tretter" <[ptretter--charter--net]> To: <[rebol-list--rebol--com]> Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2001 9:14 AM Subject: [REBOL] Protect-system Hmmm. Ok. I rechecked and it does indeed not work on my box (win2k pro). Here is the exact sequence. I have my /View/Pro setup to connect to the internet when launched and automatically open the desktop. I then click the console icon and type in the console "protect-system". Now when I type desktop in the console to go back its shows local in the bottom left corner of the desktop. When I click on it - it doesnt connect. Anyone else have win2k and noticed this? This is also /Pro but wouldnt think it would make a difference. Paul Tretter

Hi Paul Verified, under the sequence you describe below I get the same problem. This is a bug in the desktop code. You should send the detailed description to feedback. But you could just put protect-system in your user.r and avoid the issue. -Larry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Tretter" <[ptretter--charter--net]> To: <[rebol-list--rebol--com]> Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2001 12:36 PM Subject: [REBOL] Re: Protect-system Ok. Larry are you using /Pro or just /View and are you also using win2k? Just curious. Paul Tretter
