REBOL Promotional Idea
[1/8] from: tim:johnsons-web at: 4-Oct-2001 9:13
My thoughts here are OS-specific. Please forgive me for that, but
I'm working with what I have and what I know...
Two ideas one big, one little.
Here's the big one: There are numerous Linux magazines: Linux Format,
Maximum Linux, Linux Journal, Linux Magazine. All of those magazines
feature numerous code examples. There are mostly in C, follwed by
perl, shell script and occasionally Python or PHP.
why not raise a little ruckus with these guys and
and see if some rebol code could get featured.
There's a feature in this Month's Linux Journal on simple
client/server apps. In C. Very long compared to same in
rebol.
Here's the little one: I and some friends publish a monthly
'web-zine' called "Frozen-North Linux Webzine".
http://www.frozen-north-linuxonline.com/
We are getting some recognition. Last month, favorable reviews,
links from major webzines. Over 10,000 hits.
I would strongly push for submissions from "guests" <hint, hint>
I would also push for links to rebolforces.
Caution: Publisher is a bad-tempered bear of a guy. Lives in a
log cabin. Hauls his water, cuts firewood and programs in perl.
<g>Handle with care.</g>

How about articles (with business scenarios) on
sites dealing with CTO, CIO etc ?
Much as Rebol itself is a language-n-platform,
I think the value add is really how business problems
can be solved using Rebol's products and the
community.

I think that is a good idea in terms of approaching
those large magazines.
In terms of our webzine, that might be something to
work up to over a period of months.
I'm offering to insert articles about rebol at the
beginning rather covertly at first. Our webzine is
at least originally formed around the concept of a
Linux "Community".
If you look at the first archive, you will see an earlier
column that I wrote. I challenge you to read it. I
come from an entirely different point of view of
business scenarios
. You'll see a totally different
scenario
there. And I plug rebol.

There is always an open call for article submissions for REBOL Forces and
also for the Zine. Only about 1 in 5 articles promised for REBOL Forces have
turned up, and it looks like the /Zine has fallen prey to the same problem.
I think we all enjoy writing REBOL, but just have trouble taking the time to
write about it.
I'm not giving up, I know there are many great articles out there just
waiting to turn up ;-)
Cheers,
