REBOL List should be back up now.
[1/14] from: carl:rebol at: 15-Jun-2004 20:05
It looks like we found the problem with the list, and it has now been fixed
by moving the list to a new email address:
rebolist
using our normal rebol.com domain. You may need to adjust your email
filters and processors accordingly.
Please try to avoid listing this address on web pages or in email... this
helps cut down on the email address scraping that's going on. That was
really jamming up the list server with spam. We hope it runs more
efficiently now, at least until the spam builds up again.
-Carl
PS: if you send email to the old rebol-list address, for now you should get
a reply, directing you to our web site for more info. Again we try to avoid
sending the address out, even in the reply. Are we paranoid or what?

Let's see if it really works?

Just checking that this is the correct email address

Can the MLM obfuscate the list address if it finds it in a list
message? I noticed it in Andrew's reply, but I don't know how many
posts will get cut and pasted somewhere else with it intact. We can
update REBOL.org to do that in the mailing list archive there.

Sorry about the duplicate messages. Email server setup can be painful,
because there are various queues at multiple locations along the route, and
those queues also perform timed retries for prior delivery failures.
Personally, as you know, I do not like email at all. It was good back in
1978 when I first started using it. But it's old, complicated, and feeble
these days.
In the amount of time it took to get this email list working properly
again, we could have released some new SDK betas... Maybe tomorrow.

I agree. I've only been using it since the early '90s but am
already feeling burned out on it. I answer emails with phone
calls when I can :)

As a new SDK licensee, I look forward to new betas!

The steady drip, drip, drip of new releases, with bug fixes, creates an
ocean of users...

Glad to have the list back!
REBOL.org already obfuscates or removes most email addresses in message
headers. And it does a little bit of obfuscation on email addresses in the body of
a message -- but we could *specifically* blank out the new list address when
it occurs in the body.
I'll get on to it.
Assuming Carl doesn't want to do it as the messages come in.
Sunanda.

Done a quickie on that, as you can see from:
http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/ml-display-message.r?m=rmlTQPC
I'll think of something more sophisticated (like a link to joining the group)
in a day or two.
Meanwhile ----HELLO CARL---- you might want to obsfucate the join address on
this page:
http://www.rebol.com/discussion.html
That will/should reduce spams to the Join address
Sunanda.

Test too.
BTW: Take a look at ASSP spam filter, the best to choose on the server. No
more problems with spam since I use it.

IMO email works fine so long as you stick to ASCII and do not try to
display any HTML or UTF-8.
The great advantage over the telephone is that it is asynchronous.

Thanks for the suggestion.
That address is already getting pounded so hard I did not bother.
We'll need to change the name on it at some point, at that time
we can remove the web page reference.
It would be nice if ecartis had a mode that said "if it's not a valid
command, then just blackhole the request."

Sunanda,
Excellent! Thanks for doing that so quickly.
Folks, please check out the ML archive at REBOL.org if you get a
chance and send us feedback (here, there, or on one of the AltME
worlds where there's a Library group).
Thanks!
