REBOL mailing list problems

 [1/7] from: maarten::vrijheid::net at: 1-Dec-2003 8:23

John, I take it you still have problems with getting off the list? Although I understand the *major* annoyance 64 forwards isn't too swell for the rest of us. What's the point in annoying hundreds of people because you have a problem? How would you feel if you were on a list and somebody behaves like you do? --Maarten

I'm beginning to suspect that John is trolling rather than having difficulties getting off the list.. Isn't there SOMEONE in charge of the list we can contact - even if its to ban mail from john? Regards, James. Maarten Koopmans wrote:

Hi James, As John's messages appear on the ML then I assume he must be subscribed. So either he is still subscribed or he somehow got re-subscribed. Anyway the messages seem to have stopped for now. Cheers Phil

RT does have control over the list, and we could ban him. However, we do not do so lightly. (In fact, we've never kicked someone off the list or banned them in the history of this list.) It is quite possible that he simply made a mistake with his email client (or a REBOL script) that caused the flood. I think we know how easy that kind of mistake is. We will give him the benefit of the doubt this time. If we get a sense that abuse is going on, we will ban him the best that Ecartis (mail list system) allows. -Carl PS: If you are thinking, "wait, I was kicked off the list once" -- it turns out we (RT) did not do it. Ecartis will automatically remove you if your SMTP server rejects your email delivery for a period of time. (You should see the SMTP errors that Ecartis must deal with!)

Telling from a personal exchange, it was definitely no mistake but quite the opposite. Nevertheless, if he's off the list now, the problem should be gone. Too much time and bandwith was already wasted, so f'up to /dev/null :) -- Best regards, Andreas
