[ALLY] Getting one's head around View/Vid

 [1/3] from: brett::codeconscious::com at: 15-Dec-2000 12:10

Hi, Because the Rebol language itself has been the source of much interest and fun for me, I haven't as yet done anything useful with the graphic capabilities of View. But, I would now like to learn this. I've kept an eye on the various posts from this list. Is it correct to say that the current manual for View is not up to date with the latest way of writing GUIs in View? If so, any suggestions for an approach to learning it? I wish to avoid learning that which is already superseeded. I'm guessing I'll be needing to read through examples, which examples are the best to start with? Just trying to save a little time with by asking for your advice. Thanks Brett.

Hi Brett, The html docs are out of date, though many of the principals still hold true. Best bet to learn with is Carls easyvid.r tutorial. Have a search around the View demo for it. At the lowest level, everything in view is a face object, VID provides a simple dialect for creating faces. So simple in fact that as a new view user, you may not need to know about the underlying faces for a while. Hope this helps, I'll write some more when I can. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for that Allen. I found easyvid.r in the demo under rebol.com, docs. Brett.
