[ALLY] /View/Pro licensing

 [1/2] from: ptretter::charter::net at: 11-Apr-2001 20:55

I just need some clarification on the licensing. I want to make this purchase however: Does the current /View license agreement remain intact if the license for /View/Pro is obtained? Also, could we clarifiy the word commercial as stated: Does commerical mean that we cannot use this product for "corporate use in a production or other environment"? Or what if I want to build a product with /Pro and generate sales on that product? Also, the license seems to make no provisions for support of the product being sold rather inclusive or exclusive. This means I could require support for this product if bought and paid for correct? I dont want to sound negative about this but evaluation the proper purchasing decision here. Seems that commercial (if what I think your implying) then we might have to pay for runtime capabilities on top of the commercial license fees also? Money is burning a hole in my pocket. Yes.

Defining "commercial use" is very difficult, because you can always come up with border cases. The idea is that /Pro versions are intended for personal use. If you would like to use /Pro versions commercially within corporate environments (in particular on servers, in multi-user setups or with scripted setups) then you should contact REBOL Technologies directly regarding licensing.

Do you mean by "build a product with /Pro" that you are writing a script for /Pro and then intend to sell the script, along with /Pro ? No problem as long as you are distributing /Pro without a license key, i.e. if your script does not use any of the additional /Pro features or if you require your customers to license /Pro separately. If your script does require /Pro features, i.e. does not work without a license key, then you would have to obtain /Pro Runtime from us (available shortly, no pricing yet, sorry).

I am not sure I fully understand your question. For /Pro as a consumer product we provide normal consumer support, i.e. [feedback--rebol--com], mailing lists, web site updates etc. This is not commercial support with 24/7 1-800 numbers, guaranteed turnaround times on requests etc. More comprehensive support is available for those products which are targetted at commercial markets, i.e. /Command and /Express. If you are interested in licensing /Pro for commercial use with commercial support then please contact us directly.

/Pro Runtime will allow you to redistribute /Pro with an encapsulated script in such a way that users do not have to individually obtain a license key from us in order to run your script. If your script works without a license key (using only View features) then you can redistribute the script along with /Pro (without a license key) without obtaining /Pro Runtime license from us.
