My daughter was playing REBtris, and noticed that sometimes
after passing 1000, the game speeds up greatly.

hmmm... and I would think one would have to speed up greatly to even get
close to 1,000<g>.

Level 1 -> 2 drops per second
Level 2 -> 3 drops per second
Level 3 -> 4 drops ...
