Workaround for not working open/direct
[1/4] from: tmoeller::fastmail::fm at: 12-Aug-2005 10:47
Hi,
in a mail some days ago i asked, how to manage large files an was
informed by Gregg that open/direct should be capable to do this, but for
some unknown reason not working in the latest releases.(There should be
a Version where this has temporarily been fixed)
Here my Questions now:
1. Is there a version of Rebol, where this is working properly, and if
yes, which?
2. Does anybody knows if there is an entry in RAMBO and at which
priority?
3. is there another way to handle .txt files of about 12 GB.
I need to do some searching and extracting with these files. Other
approaches i tried gave me "Not enough memory"-errors.
Anybody??
Thorsten

Hi Thorsten,

I think that REBOL can't handle files bigger than 4GB whatever
method used. (Reading sequentially with /DIRECT may or may not
work, depending on OS and so on, but it's likely to break anyway.)
I don't think we can expect a 64 bit version of REBOL soon. You
should try splitting the file in smaller chunks.
Regards,
Gabriele.

300 - 800 MB). Gruß Kai

Ooops - that was meant to go to Thorsten private email address :( For
those of you wondering what this German is all about: I am telling him about
the VEDIT PRO64 editor which is capable of handling files up to 100 GB and
ishighly automizable. BTW, it makes a fabulous REBOL editor, too, once you
make yourself a syntax file for it. Kai Thorsten, ich weiß ja
