OK, you note my smiley, right? No negativism involved ;-) Just let's be
ppl realistic please. I already told Cyphre, that I test things in
following way:
1) I randomly press stuff here or there, maddening around UI elements,
and watch how they behave
2) I try to switch to non-rebol user experience - I mean - treating the
app not knowing it is done in rebol - because that way, we tolerate many
things. But even small glitches can annoy users, so why not to prevent them?
As for UI:
1) Over effect was not realtime in AltME info section
2) list-box implementation does not imo behave correctly and is slow ....
3) channel name should not allow caret - it does not look good ...
So please, Reichart - do use resources of Rebol community - I think that
folks like Cyphre can help you to solve the issues. ...

Reichart,
I would suggest that you consider incorporating a http
server in AltME for platforms that don't have View
currently ( Pocket PC, OS X etc ). It wouldn't need to
exactly replicate the experience, just allow the basic
client functionality.
Also, although you can not expose the API due to Encap
licensing restrictions, how about a hook in for others to
write Encapped applications that utilise the messaging
services?
And finally, consider some way of bridging worlds. In my
rebol GoRIM chat server, I had three servers running, and
messages from one would propagate automatically to the
other two servers ( one was in Texas, one in Czech
Republic, and the other was in the UK ).

Everyone should join the rebol world that carl made:
World: rebol
User: guest
Pass: guest
So far it is very stable.. no crashes... and fun discussions.. lets see
how well it scales.. so far so good...

Petr, I did not the smiley face, but quick wit is a side effect of very
smart people, and so I probe more because the real gems of information are
just below the surface.
I agree 100% with your view. It is taking some work to make FTPGadget and
AltME indistinguishable from any other app on a given platform. But we are
getting there.
1. Over effect was not realtime in AltME info section
A: Agreed. Will improve.
2. Q: list-box implementation does not imo behave correctly and is slow ....
A: Agreed. Will improve
3 Q: channel name should not allow caret - it does not look good ...
A: Consider this in a different way perhaps. People will be able to create
worlds for just a day or week, etc. This is a concept that does not
currently exist in any apps I know of. In our company we create FTP sites
like others use razors. Because of this it will be easy for individuals to
create a world called ^Disney^ even though Disney is using the world name
Disney. Companies will almost NEVER use "^" but individually will use all
sorts of symbols. Including simply naming their world, or a group "^"
There are many things I think are ugly, Spandex on most people, plastic lawn
furniture and ornament (flamingos), Bumper sticker, etc. But there is a big
market for them.
Please always give me feedback, in what you believe is good bad, or
downright viscous, we are not going to end up with a better product if
people are nice about their observations. That is the great part of having
a free-market.
For those of you that started with us on FTPGadget, you have seen some
dramatic changes in design, user interface, and features. But about 1/10 of
what I plan for this coming year.
Be useful.
