Rebol View NO GO in Ubuntu 8.04 Beta

 [1/7] from: warren:howsoft at: 6-Apr-2008 15:43

Hi All, In case anyone is interested at this stage, Rebol View 2.76 (or before) does not execute in the Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) BETA, unless there is something obvious I have missed (yes, the file has executable status). The Ubuntu beta I am running has been installed via Windows (the new option), though I imagine that this might not be a factor (or could it?). But View doesn't run from the live CD either. Has anyone else tried View in Ubuntu 8.04? Regards, Bob

I'm running /core on kubuntu 7.10, don't use /view, but wanted to ask: Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit distro? tim

I'm using /View 2.76 on Ubuntu 8.04 Beta no problem at all. I'm using the 32 bit Ubuntu and the Kernel 2.6 /View (from http://www.rebol.com/downloads/v276/rebview-fedx86.tar.gz). Kind Regards, Brian Wisti -- Brian Wisti http://coolnamehere.com/ http://brianwisti.blogspot.com/ brian.wisti-gmail.com

--------------------------------- My Ubuntu 8.4 beta is the 32-bit version. --------------------------------- Brian Wisti wrote:

OK guys, here's the result of my experiment: REBOL View 2.7.6: Linux x86 - Fedora (Kernel 2.6) - WORKS in Ubuntu 8.04 BETA (32-bits) Linux x86 - Libc6, Debian - DOESN'T WORK in Ubuntu 8.04 BETA (32-bits) If anything, I would have thought that the result should have been the other way round, but perhaps someone can clarify me? To be honest I don't know the implications behind the use of "Fedora (Kernel 2.6) as opposed to "Libc6, Debian" in relation to 32-bit Ubuntu. SHOULD the version(s) I tried (Debian) ALSO work in the Ubuntu 8.04 beta or not? Bob Bob

The key is that kernel 2.6.x is the current kernel from Linux. That's more relevant than distribution. Ubuntu may be based on Debian, but it uses much fresher components in order to provide a decent desktop experience. And now you know :-) Kind Regards, Brian Wisti -- Brian Wisti http://coolnamehere.com/ http://brianwisti.blogspot.com/ brian.wisti-gmail.com
