Hello Admin, Please set-up an account for the REBOL3 world. Thank you, Von

Mm yes, I could use one too if you wouldn't mind. P.S. Is there some reason for =20 nonsense on the end of lines? -- Regards, Mat Bettinson

the =20 nonsense has been discussed before. It's a limitation of your email client ( and mine too ...gmail shows them up ). On Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 10:30 AM, Mat Bettinson <mat-plothatching.com> wrote:

I use kmail on linux. I receive mail from about 20 mailing lists. I do see them far more often on this ML than any other. Is there a possible fix on my end? thanks tim

not easy .. best to ask the guys posting to change their encoding method. On Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 11:07 AM, Tim Johnson <tim-johnsons-web.com> wrote:

Your request is in the hands of an Altme REBOL3 Admin. Should not be too long.
> P.S. Is there some reason for =20 nonsense on the end of lines?
Some sort of improperly handled interaction between the sender's email client, the email list server and, possibly, your client too. Things get confused about what characters are being escaped and what ones are to be taken literally. We try our best to clean it up on the archive at REBOL.org....But then we may occasionally remove a genuine =20 if it comes at the end of a line. I also see '=20' all the time and only on this list.

And here's the previous discussion http://www.mail-archive.com/rebolist-rebol.net/msg00589.html So, those who send =20 need to change the settings on their mail clients so that the rest of us are not aesthetically displeased. Further reading... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quoted-printable This encoding is reversible, meaning the original bytes and hence the non-ASCII characters they represent can be recovered. So, who understands email headers? As have the emails we receive from the list already been converted, (just not properly), or not? -- Carl Read.

 [11/27] from: compkarori::gmail::com at: 18-Dec-2008 6:07

They can be recovered if it's email client to email client. But clearly the list server is being interposed. On Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 5:58 PM, Carl Read <carl-cybercraft.co.nz> wrote:

Thanks for tracking down the previous discussion. The full thread is easier to read here: <http://www.rebol.org/ml-display-thread.r?m=rmlSXRC> Ecartis, the mail list server used by this list clear has some limitations. But I am not sure the solution suggested in the previous discussion (to set mail to 8-bit) is an ideal solution. It also does not seem to work always. Take a look at this recent message: <http://mail.rebol.net/cgi-bin/mail-list.r?msg=44422> mail.rebol.net publishes messaages as received, headers and all. There is an =20 in there, yet the header is set as: Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit There's another thread here: <http://www.rebol.org/ml-display-thread.r?m=rmlWHQC> It proposes another solution: turning quoted-printable off for messages to this list. No idea if that would work. Sunanda

Sunanda, It looks like I'm the last poster in that thread! You're referring to Nick's email ... and what we are saying is that Ecartis is changing it from quoted printable to 8bit but not doing a good job of the decoding. So, you should set your email client to 8bit instead of quoted printable. On Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 9:21 PM, Sunanda <dhsunanda-gmail.com> wrote:

But that won't fix new list users' emails whose clients are set to quoted-printable, resulting in more threads like this in the future. It's Ecartis that should be fixed... -- Carl Read.

One 'fix' would be to just move it to Google groups :-) I knocked up a pretty comprehensive mailing list app in rebol a few years ago. Can't find it though. I used a command line tool for sending email. -- Regards, Mat Bettinson

That's already been thought of due to other concerns... http://groups.google.com/group/Rebol However, I think it was rejected as the official list due to Google's TOS. Something about who owns the emails. -- Carl Read.

Amen. I note that vim is using Google groups. That ML averages 25,000 - 30,000 messages per years without any problems. (my rough guess) I belong to the vim ML, so I could post some inquiries if any so chooses. But Google groups has my vote. MTCW Tim

Last I looked at Google groups, the interface was so ugly, that I imediatelly refused to use it. Now looking at it, it does not look so bad. However - what is it, a BBS? Let's sum up our recent channels: - AltME - fast, instant messaging, ability to share, private chat, bugreport, callendar, checklist. Easy to set-up, not that difficult to get in, client works from USB flash - ML - not so used today, but classic tool, very heavily used in the past - RebTalk - non official REBOL BBS - Carl's blog comments - mostly one-sided communication As for Carl's blogs, you surely realised, that Carl plus few ppl on r3-alpha were trying to decide upon communication channels. Not sure decision was made, but it seems that many ppl would welcome official RT's forum. The talk was between systems like phpBB, vBulletin, myBB, but also something more easy, REBOL based. In that regard, Oldes is working on BBS. Nothing was decided yet. ... so, I am not sure it is wise nowadays to start - yet-another communication channel, but - maybe it takes-up, so who knows ... -pekr-

What people use for private communication about REBOL isn't important - whoever's involved will just choose what they like the best. Public communication channels are very important though, as it's part of REBOL's advertising. Reading such communications are how a lot of those who haven't used REBOL will get a flavour of it. Ideally it'd be written in REBOL and use the REBOL plugin, along with an archive in html. Using the plugin will also be good advertising for REBOL. And all of rebol.com should be using the plugin too. -- Carl Read. On Friday, 19-December-2008 at 8:58:27 Petr Krenzelok wrote,

yes, it is important, and you are imo wrong :-) We should not depreciate one factor - diversification of comm channels. What is another comm channel good for, if not used? How many ppl from here do support newices on reboltalk.com for e.g.? Our community is rather small and I prefer less well supported channels than other way around ... just my two cents ... -pekr-

guys, peace :-) plug-in was NEVER properly finished. Josh was supposed to work on new security model, but the doc never appeared. New version was supposed also to allow more than one instance on the webpage. So - we need to start over imo. As for me, I find plug-in being a strategic product, because of easy of deployment for an end user. Plug-in source code will be released along with host codes IIRC ... -pekr-

It's alright pekr - Graham and I live in the same country. ;-) I was just being terse, which can be useful. Thus you said: "As for me, I find plug-in being a strategic product". And I couldn't agree more, which is partly my point. It's been treated in a half-hearted way up until now. Hopefully it won't be in the future. -- Carl Read.
