I see that ODBC is now only on a named support basis ie.

Microsoft Excel
Microsoft SQL Server
Oracle
MySQL
Is that going to change? Or is it because other databases
have not been tested?

Lack of testing. In theory it should work with all databases, but we cannot
certify that.
