News: REBOL and Morpheus Join Forces

 [1/17] from: carl::rebol::com at: 29-Oct-2001 16:25

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE REBOL and Morpheus join forces to create the largest programmable content network. California, USA - October 31, 2001 - REBOL Technologies and StreamCast Networks (formerly MusicCity.com) today announced a partnership to create the world's largest peer-to-peer X Internet content network. StreamCast, makers of Morpheus and next generation peer-to-peer content distribution networks, will base Morpheus 2.0 on REBOL's X Internet operating system (IOS) technology to provide interactive programmable content to more than 30 million users by the end of the year. This partnership catapults the Internet into a new era, says Carl Sassenrath, Founder and CTO of REBOL Technologies. "It combines the ubiquity of StreamCast's advanced peer-to-peer distribution system with the power and operating system independence of REBOL's X Internet applications." We are inventing a new genre for content networks that is unequaled by even MSN or AOL, commented Steve W. Griffin, CEO of StreamCast, whose Morpheus product has been downloaded by more than 27 million users. "Morpheus and its content network will be accessible across nearly all Internet devices, and we will establish an entirely new class of shared, interactive Internet applications." Content, service, and application developers can use StreamCast's Morpheus to distribute their works, products, or goods over the Internet to millions of consumers. It uses an advanced peer-to-peer networking technology that does not require centralized servers and dynamically scales as load increases. The Morpheus application allows users to search, find, and execute content, including audio, video, photos, reference data, reports, documents, and applications. REBOL's IOS is based on the X Internet computing model that works by downloading and executing small applications that are stored and run locally. This approach produces a richer, more interactive end-user experience, increases the relevancy of the content, and makes the network more efficient. IOS also eliminates the complexity and expense that makes distributed applications difficult to produce and deploy. Tiny applications, called "reblets", are only about the size of a single web page. They can be quickly created and run across dozens of operating systems. For security, IOS is one of the first systems to offer the new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). We're going to see a whole new world of network applications, says Darrell Smith, StreamCast CTO. "Applications will be morphing - expanding and improving - in real time over the network. You will be able to locate and use a variety of innovative applications and services for business, home, education, and entertainment. The agility of this system will enable it to quickly outrun .Net." Company Backgrounds: REBOL Technologies was founded in 1997 by acclaimed OS designer Carl Sassenrath, best known as the creator of the Amiga Operating System and CDTV. REBOL provides X Internet systems and solutions to companies of all sizes, technologies, and markets. The company, located in Northern California, can be contacted through www.rebol.com. StreamCast Networks, formerly named MusicCity.com, was founded by Steve W. Griffin and Darrell Smith. The company's software product, Morpheus, allows consumers to connect to a user-created P2P network and act as both a client and server. blown off. if they mix their technologie, they have a perfect windows-app with lots of users, multimedia/windows-experts and get lots of attention because of this napster-like legacy-stuff. together with the ability to port it everywhere, and easy improvements. Wow. -Volker

Hi, Carl, Very good news for the Rebol community :-) Congratulations :-)) I saw many mails concerning the future techo behind Morpheus (Rebol IOS, you said in your email). I think many users are playing Rebol on an MS Windows box. But some others use an alternative platform like unix, linux, beos, ... What is interresting with Rebol is this techno is device independant. What I hope is Rebol techno will continue to be device independant ;-) -- regards. --- Etienne
