Demo breakage

 [1/5] from: joel:neely:fedex at: 1-May-2001 22:44

At 22:19 CDT I was unable to get several of the demos to launch from the REBOL/View desktop, running under RedHat 7.1; the ones that didn't work give an alert that reads: Missing file: http://www.rebol.com/view/demos/(...file name here) Status of the demos was as follows: Buttons - OK Calculator - OK Colors - Missing file: ...color-names.r Diagram - Missing file: ...diagram.r Digital clock - Missing file: ...clock.r Easy VID - Missing file: ...easy-vid.r Effect Lab - OK Emailer - Missing file: ...emailer.r Feedback - Missing file: ...feedback.r Font Lab - Missing file: ...font-lab.r Gel - OK Grad Image - OK Gradient - OK Mines - Missing file: ...mines.r Paint - OK Rebodex - OK Rebtris - OK Tile Game - Missing file: ...tile-game.r Todo List - Missing file: ...todo-list.r V-Balls - OK Win Skin - Missing file: ...do-win95.r I was able to browse to the www.rebol.com site (with Netscape 4.7.6) during this time, and was able to access other 'net material. I shut down View, then restarted it; everything I've tested thusfar works properly. Clues, anyone? -jn-

This happens if you are in local mode and you haven't accessed these apps before ( not in your local cache ). RT should make it more obvious on the desktop whether you are connected or not. -- Graham Chiu

Not sure what you mean by that. When you are connected it tells you and when you are not it tells you.I did have an interesting thing happen tonite,I could not connnect to the net and pinging my ISP timed out but Rebol WAS connected.Calling my ISP we determined that my bindings had become unbound. So even thou Windows could not connect due to the binding Rebol was able to.So which is the better OS?Windows or Rebol? Hi Alan, Not quite. When you connect, a status message appears in the bottom right pane to say that you are connected, but then gets overwritten by any other status message. If you are local, the local message stays present in the bottom left pane. But then if are connected, and drop to the desktop, then you also get disconnected, and the local message does not reappear. -- Graham Chiu

Hmmm. It says when I'm local, but after I'm connected it says nothing. (Yes, I can deduce what nothing means in this case.:) The bottom panel does appear a bit flaky though, it not seeming to re-size perfectly on my Amiga. -- Carl Read [carl--cybercraft--co--nz]
