Enhancement Request - /Integer and /Fraction Refinements for integers an

Enhancement Request /Integer and /Fraction Refinements for integers and decimals It would be very nice if Rebol had a /integer and /fraction refinement, like this:
>> Value: 123.45
== 123.45
>> Value/integer
== 123
>> Value/fraction
== 0.45 :-) And the equivalent for money! could be called /Dollars and /Cents. Andrew Martin ICQ: 26227169 http://members.nbci.com/AndrewMartin/

Not only is this a good idea, it's a cute one, too. Cheerfulness, -----EAT Andrew Martin wrote:

Hello Andrew,

Isn't this a bit america-centristric? I'd prefer /Mark and /Pfennig, or /Euro and /Cent. And Gabriele would probably prefer /Lira. Just joking ... Christian [Christian--Ensel--GMX--De]

No, no. Just Dollar and Centrist. I'm in New Zealand, where we use the NZ$.

I'm not! :-) I've sent it to [feedback--rebol--com] for consideration. Andrew Martin ICQ: 26227169 http://members.nbci.com/AndrewMartin/

Hi Andrew,

I didn't take 'system/local/currency into consideration. You're right, this would be a very, very cool thing. Regards, Christian [Christian--Ensel--GMX--De]

...feel compelled to argue as the devils' advocate here. system/local/currency! eh? As it is intended to be WORLD Wide Web it may be in best interests to stick with the most widely accepted AND reasonably stable currencies to ever change hands on this planet, that being USD. USD IS local currency in many more countries than the US. Arguably 95%+ of all ecommerce transactions are in USD. It makes things easy. Banks here in the US and banks in Europe I know of tend to charge prohibitive exchange fees for small currency amounts. There are no countries I know of where USD cannot be spent rather easily. Should we ever have a world dollar it best be green. For the very small number of people who require alternate currencies working around a default should not be that much of a pain.

Yes, it is valid point, _why_ do we spend so much time on _internationalization_? Just grep the language spoken by most people, and go ahead with it ... of course now we all have to learn chinese ;-) On the other hand, I don't think it's wise to add localization into the language level. Ever tried to run a german VBA program on an english computer? Do you know what to expect from value-of-type-money/rin ? (asking my lexicon I get "japanese money: 1 Yen = 100 sen = 1000 rin") regards, Ingo

Ingo! It wasn't a point - it was noise on the line.

To reach the largest audience.

It would be interesting to see the effectiveness of Rebol dialects on translation of information from one written language to another. Brett. (Hoping for static free messages).
