REBOL on-line ordering

 [1/6] from: gord::raboud::home::com at: 5-Sep-2000 21:01

Hello Rebols; How do you calculate shipping costs? Is it a REBOL script based on weight and destination or is it a one-size fits all? At this point I would pay for a working REBOL script that could calculate shipping costs based on weight and destination. --

In writing the online order forms, we had to construct a very tedious spreadsheet postal rates. Unfortunately, international mail does not follow any discernable pattern, it is all over the place. You can generalize for regions--such as Europe, Asia, etc.--but not even very accurately then. It is a true headache<g>... As to UPS or RPS shipments, yes it would be easier to do a script which calculates the charge based on weight and destination. I'm working on one myself and plan on including it in my next book on REBOL. --Ralph

Hello Rebols; I do hope that you name your next book something other than "... for Dummies". I wanted to order your book but couldn't bring myself to order it because of the title. In short, I've never even been tempted to purchase any book with the "... for Dummies" in the title; that is until I read your on-line description. My self esteem just isn't low enough to allow me to purchase it which is too bad because it looks like a great book. --

Hi Gordon, IMHO You are really missing out on good fast track books if you ignore the IDG Dummies titles. Whenever you are starting from a point of low topic knowledge, the dummies book are a often great way to get upto speed before jumping into Expert level texts. Cheers, Allen K OK IDG where's my commission ?

I recommend the "REBOL: The Official Guide." It starts out easy and works its way up. Aside from the first several pages, it is mostly easy reading. Interestingly, it covers the same or more than my other introduction type programming books. So you know, the Dummies books I have read have four advantages: 1. Get your feet wet, teaching you how to perform key features. 2. Instill confidence 3. Provide cute little tips and gotchyas. 4. Keep you awake with an easy reading and entertaining writing style. Keep in mind that everybodies a dummy in some subject, and everybody was once a dummy in every subject. --Ryan [gord--raboud--home--com] wrote:

i decided to get the `official guide' instead of the dummies book... it's so-so at teaching rebol, i'll be able to live with it. i was mostly disappointed in the lack of a reference. i was able to get most of the keywords by typing `what' in rebol/core /view, etc., so i could build my own syntax for the two editors i use. but so far i haven't been able to get the built in refinements to add to the syntax highlighting... -- *---------------------------------------- | |http://members.home.net/tsummerfelt1 | |remove myspleen to email | *-----------------------
