The Artifact DesktopT enables the software developer to easily and
conveniently submit, manage, acquire, and use software artifacts to improve
productivity. Designed with the developer in mind, the Artifact Desktop
encourages developer participation in a software reuse program.
Empowering the development manager with the reporting capabilities of the
Artifact Management ServerT improves visibility into, and predictability of,
the development cycle. As a result, managers can improve resource utilization,
and measure reuse performance to accelerate time to market, improve product
quality, and reduce costs."
Essentially, it's an application for Windows 2000, XP, NT4, ME and 98
requiring the .NET framework redistributable package (which can be downloaded
during setup), which allows you to search and post and ask questions and code
snippets and binaries and FAQs etc. They don't have a category specifically
for REBOL yet, but I'm sure that they will sway to our power in due time. ;) I
haven't done very much with it yet, but it looks quite nice and has potential.
And it's a free download (up to 30MB). I'm giving it a look.

I've just downloaded it, chatted to one of the people there, and got a
promise that Rebol will appear as a category straight away.
I'm a bit disturbed that I have to manually synchronise with the server;
it's a bit of chore doing so.

*nods* It still has a few bugs. One, for instance, when it's downloading
message board messages or headers, it effectively freezes all Artifact windows
until it's done. However, I've so far found it useful enough to encourage me
to pick up another coding language. Some of the biggest drawbacks to me for
such things are human assistance and resources. Sure, there are books, but
they tend to be pricey and not always cover the things you want - and often
enough use language which dissuades you. 'REBOL for Dummies' gets me some
times, partially because I don't know where to start (I started learning REBOL
before I got the book), I don't necessarily know where to look, it doesn't have
everything I'm looking for... *shrugs* Artifact should be a help.

I tried it out the next day and unfortunately the Artifact software asked me
for a password, then wouldn't let me in -- there was no place to enter a
password! So I've uninstalled/deleted it.

Sorry to've taken so long to get on to this. The trick is to go to the
Artifact directory, then the Users subdir, and edit the <username>_config.xml
file. There will be a field set as <password /> in some cases (I think it's if
you chose not to save the pwd). Set it to any string. AD will connect, then
give you an invalid authentication error. Then you'll be asked for your
username and pwd. Tada. Check out the .XML file again, and an encrypted form
of the pwd will be in there.
Though I know it's late now, since you've uninstalled already ;) Anyways,
I've let them know about it.
