Cost of training.

 [1/12] from: allenk:powerup:au at: 19-Oct-2001 11:01

It seems companies are trying to make their money back in training these days. Here's Curls latest attempt http://www.curl.com/html/developers/training.jsp Are people willing to pay these prices for REBOL training? If they are, then a few of us on this list might be looking at a new income source. Cheers, Allen K

Allen, I will have to take a pay cut. :-) Regards, Greg

Not I. At least not that much $$$. To many languages - to little time. Paul Tretter

I wonder what they did with the $42M in financing they received 2 years ago ? :) -- Graham Chiu

Would be cool to make "REBOL training/educational centre over the net" or so using LWDC rebol tools/clients for 1/10 of the Curls price. Anyone want to invest into this project? ;) regards, Cyphre

500 $ for a day is the industrial rule here in Italy. You can pay more (750$ +) for advanced Java, Perl, Php... Teaching and learning already is and will be more and more the big problem of high tech societies. Here in Italy is already hard to find low-level teachers for teenagers.

Heya Pekr ;-) Please, be patient ;) I need just a little time to make it playable so you can kill some ugly monsters ;) I suppose end of this weekend should be the right time for the release. Cyphre

Allen: I did pay $300 in 1995 for Java training, and it was really fairly poor quality in retrospect, but was an exciting course at the time. Training like this has been in my cross-hairs (Rebol certification should be much more valuable than MSCE or Java Certification) for quite some time. I think both online and a traveling road show would be nice. Course, every time I build an investment or project/product demo, I am putting these into my training suitcase...;-) I suspect Universities will also be forced at some time to switch from Scheme to Rebol as the intro to programming course for freshmen. Sometime we should have a rebol-one developer conference. Been too busy to plan, but maybe the Rebol/IOS release would be a good time. A good way to develop training and practice. Have simply been too busy to put it together yet. Grasshopper of the Future, Steve Shireman Allen Kamp wrote:

I think a computer-based training program for REBOL could be pretty effective. IMHO, the learning curve for beginners is similar to that of spoken/written languages: * vocabulary * the "flow" of the syntax * mastery of the above to take advantage of REBOL's expressiveness * Idioms, gotcha's and situational "tricks" Most of this can be addressed with brief instruction, repetition/memorization and learning-by-doing. The key is that the interactive parts should be really engaging. For example, check out a teaching-game that IBM did for Java: Robocode Game http://robocode.alphaworks.ibm.com/home/home.html . If anyone here has bandwidth and is itchin' to build some instructional games, let us all know. It would be a great contribution to the REBOL cause. Ed Coolamongo! Ya know, back in the last decade I tried to locate the source for C-Robots, but never got it. A visual environment for agents/bots in Rebol that battle each other would be waycool Turn the old Vivarian "Playground" into "Battleground" Agents have AI (or even AS ...) SGD$1500 is what company charges for training for a class of about 10 and for a course of 3 days here in Singapore. US$1 = SG$1.76 (around)
