Linux problem

 [1/9] from: carl::cybercraft::co::nz at: 16-Dec-2002 3:20

I've just installed View on Mandrake Linux and while it runs okay, I can't get a console with it, just the Desktop. (Using KDE.) Clicking on the console icon on the Desktop just closes View down. Any suggestions? (I'm new to Linux.) -- Carl Read

Yes, linux-rebol needs external console. you can open xterm and type rebol. if you want to plug it in a kde-menu or something you can use xterm -e rebol (or whichever term you use, kterm or something?) -volker

I set it up as a link to an application in Suse and set "Run in terminal" to be true. This starts up View and then allows me to click on "Console" to get to the command line. I haven't figured out how to start the command line directly, though... -- Sincerely, | The problems of two little people don't amount to Ed Dana | a hill of beans in this crazy mixed-up world! Hi, You need to right click the .link that you are using to start REBOL/View, select Properties and check the run in console option (not sure wich tab it's under as I don't have Linux readily available at the moment) HTH Ammon Johnson --- CIO Addept ------------------ (www.addept.ws) 435-616-2322 -------- (ammon at addept.ws)

If you start the View Desktop then click on User to enter the user settings, you can see "open desktop on startup". Just uncheck that. If you want to make a rebol icon that does start the desktop, then try something like: path/to/rebol --do "desktop" Anton.

Thank you Volker, Ed, Ammon and the replier off list. Between your suggestions I now have it behaving almost how I want it. And I also know a lot more about Linux than I did yesterday too. (: -- Carl Read

And I have to say that the linux console is much more better just because there is color support! I miss it under windows very much:( =( Oliva David )=======================( [oliva--david--seznam--cz] )== =( Earth/Europe/Czech_Republic/Brno )============================= =( coords: [lat: 49.22 long: 16.67] )=============================
