Neato! Though at the moment, it does seem to fail after a while. :( The plugin stopped working after about 30 - 40 seconds after the install. What could this plug-in be useful for? I suppose it could be used anywhere where Flash might be used. Also, one of my clients has recruiters that work in different locations and this would allow all of them to access the same application regardless of location. They use IOS for that right now. The plugin approach requires less time (and money) to get up and running. Also, many people are more comfortable running applications in the context of a browser. Just a few ideas. There are currently certain limitations with the plugin: - Only one instance can be loaded at the time, including over several browser windows. - Only one plugin per page at a time. - IE only If the first two aren't followed, it will crash. Nothing, really. After installing and trying tro check the demo script it loads the script but, then,the script itself tries to connect somewhere to download some stuff. At this point it times out and a window very similar to a REBOL console appears. ** Access Error: Cannot connect to www.rebol.net ** Where: open-proto ** Near: do/args script system/script/args quit

I don't think so. Based on the size of the plugin itself I would guess it has a complete REBOL interpreter inside it. -Bruno

Please, anyone having trouble with the plugin *specify* how your system is configured: Browser, OS version, cpu, ram etc fyi, the new plugin runs ok here on two machines: Win98se IE6.0.2 500mhz 256Mb ram WinXP IE6.0.2 3Ghz 512Mb ram It loads and installs so quickly [about 15secs on WinXP notebook over DSL]. Win98 I had to manually change my security settings to enable ActiveX. WinXP there was nothing to do. This is a happy day for Rebol :-) thanks - Jason

I can't see how ram and GHz affect anything, but I'm using: IE v6.026 on NT4 with latest SP It IS a milestone for rebol to fun from browser. Now we can put our apps online and let people try them without any fuss... once it gets ironed out. :-) -MAx

This is getting really strange! I've read the plugin docs and by what I read, it seems that the plug-in did not install itself correctly (red X in white box) . I've looked in the supposed install directory and rebol is nowhere to be found! YET, rebol does not ask me to download itself, letting me to believe that It is installed somewhere. I have searched my C:\ drive for new files, and there is no relevant files create today... !!! Does anyone know if is there anything I should remove in the registry to let the system try and re-install the plugin? What would happen if the proxy where keeping the file from downloading? wouldn't windows display a file I/O error of some kind!? are there other install paths for plugins (I'm using NT4.0/sp6)? 1. Well if it's an ActiveXObject it should be usable from within any OLE container right? Microsoft Word, PowerPoint Presentations, as well as Internet Explorer. note: This actually simplifies a host of things I wanted to do to integrate explorer with IE, I'm hoping that I can build a complete sample over the weekend. 2. One common usage of a lot of firms is IE as an interface, using the webbrowser control. Wrapping the webbrowser control an application and using it as the interface for your application, you can define new functions in language X that your interface can call, thus you can use html's layout capabilities, all other capabilities of the browser to host activeX objects such as this one, and call external arguments. The app can also access the html dom and change things, so for example the wrapping application could access a tag, such as the object tag, and change what .r file was being called by that tag.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files for me on Win98se. I had no problems getting the plugin installed and running using IE5. The plugin-guide is helpful and also mentions that there is no support for proxy as yet. All the problems I reported yesterday are related to proxy. Here's what I found in testing the plugin. When I tested everything at home last night, everything ran fine (on Win-98 and WinXP) -- just doesn't work behind the firewall. Also, if I download the .htmls and .r files and the .CAB file locally and modify them, I can run behind the firewall as long as they don't point to URL outside firewall. BTW, this proxy and browser (at work) uses an autoproxy script config setting in IE and points to a URL to load its proxy settings. Something for plugin team to think about.

Hi, not necessarily. Because the plug-in doesn't has access to the DOM of the browser, I don't expect it to have any link into the COM world. Within the browser it just loads, gets a drawing area and that's it. From then on, it's closed in the Rebol world. Robert
