I suppose some of my ignorance/confusion comes from reading the FAQ, which clearly needs to be re-written: http://www.rebol.com/faq.html#8150248 Q. Can REBOL launch other programs? A. Yes and no. Launching other programs breaks the language portability. Therefore, REBOL/Core (which is intended to be as cross-platform compatible as possible) doesn't support launching other programs while REBOL/Command fully supports it. REBOL/View supports launching additional REBOL/View instances as well as the system default web browser. ..but this is overruled by 'REBOL Products' http://www.rebol.com/products.html REBOL/View and REBOL/View/Pro - The REBOL messaging language kernel, including interpreter, functions, datatypes, and networking plus REBOL's unique graphical compositing system, user interface framework, standard gadget styles, and shared desktop. The Pro version adds encryption, sound, library, and shell access. and also 'REBOL/View Product Information' http://www.rebol.com/prod-view.html Feature Summary Easy to upgrade to View/Pro. Extends View with encryption (RSA, DH, DSA, AES, Rijndael, and Blowfish), shell access (for executing other programs and shell commands), and dynamic library access (direct from REBOL). ./Jason
